Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers 12 bachelor's degrees, 42 associate degrees, and 70 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Summary
The New Student Orientation (NSO) Coordinator hosts and coordinates a regularly scheduled, comprehensive orientation program for new students entering Lake Washington Institute of Technology, not including specialty programs such as high school, international, or essential skills. The Coordinator assists the Director of Outreach, Recruitment, and Intake to meet NSO desired impacts and continually improve the NSO experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead in-person NSO sessions that meet NSO goals and desired impacts.
Manage online asynchronous NSO Canvas course to ensure engagement and alignment with NSO goals and desired outcomes.
Create a welcoming environment for a diverse student body in one-on-one and group formats that fosters engagement and connection.
Support LWTech’s commitment to eliminating opportunity gaps for marginalized populations by creating a low barrier, high support intake process.
Foster a sense of preparedness and confidence in students as they approach their first advising appointment by navigating vital pre-advising tasks during NSO events.
Identify appropriate next steps for individual students and register them for appropriate meetings, such as placement assessments, initial academic advising appointments, financial aid workshops, etc.
Assist students in activating and logging-in to required software such as ctcLink, Canvas, student email, etc.
Align NSO desired impacts with those of adjacent internal stakeholders, including Advising, Assessment, Information Technology, Office of Student Life, and others.
Train appropriate stakeholders to participate in NSO sessions.
Prepare materials for each session based on the number of registered participants and oversee day-of logistics, such as technology and room set up
Manage internal and external communications to incoming students, staff, and faculty regarding NSO events.
Coordinate with Enrollment Services to add and remove appropriate holds on student accounts.
Support the connection between career services and the NSO experience.
Review and update printed and electronic materials regularly.
Research best practices for New Student Orientations across all higher education and industry levels for process improvement purposes.
Conceptualize and create program assessment and evaluation strategies; leverage strategic data analysis to inform program enhancements.
Partner with the Director of Outreach, Recruitment, and Intake to continually revise and improve NSO experience.
Maintain records and statistics for reporting purposes.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Sufficient combination of education, work, and lived experience to demonstrate ability to meet the following expectations (generally, competitive candidates will have a bachelor's degree or higher and two or more years student success-related experience in higher education setting)
Utilize student intake and success strategies to meet enrollment goals
Work with individuals of varied ethnicity, ages, backgrounds, and abilities
Collaborate with multiple on-campus offices and off-campus organizations
Superior ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and abilities

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Salary is $5,836 per month. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. Working hours are typically 7:30am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday; teleworking is available 2-3 days per week.
