JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: Direct and manage the campus extracurricular and intramural athletic program. Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in sport(s) assigned. Contribute to education program as a whole and to growth of students involved in athletics.

Program Planning and Instruction
Program Planning and Instruction
- Direct and manage athletic programs and facilities at assigned campus.
- Manage and supervise athletic activities and use a variety of instructional techniques and media to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship and to improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport(s) assigned. Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
Program Management
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Conduct end of year program review for all athletic programs.
- Collaborate with the Director of Athletics and head coaches of each sport to select and purchase necessary equipment and supplies.
- Comply with state and federal laws, State Board of Education Rules and local Board policy.
- Ensure all athletic programs comply with LCISD and UIL policies and procedures.
- Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
- Coordinate and supervise all athletic competitions and practices, including scheduling of events, sites, staff, and officials.
- Prepare and administer campus athletic budgets including annual reviews and end of year reports.
- Structure and implement stipend sheets in coordination with Athletic Director and Principal to prepare for Payroll and yearly changes in staff.
- Oversee the planning and execution of athletic banquets and award presentations on the assigned campus.
- Monitor campus based athletic booster clubs.
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program and make recommendations for changes based on findings.
Student Management
- Accompany and supervise student athletes during practice and/or athletic competitions.
- Instruct and advise students and parents on National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
- Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
- Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
Communication
- Participate in activities to increase community and parental involvement.
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Demonstrate effective professional communication with students, staff, parents and community at all times.
- Develop a systematic process to ensure that all staff, students, parents and the community are made aware of UIL compliance guidelines.
Administration
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records and other documents required.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all athletic equipment.
- Oversee the proper care and maintenance of all campus athletic fields, facilities, and equipment including the cleaning, sanitizing, repairing, and storing of equipment and make recommendations for repair and replacement when appropriate.
- Initiate and approve purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations.
- Assist the Director of Athletics, the Football Coach/ACAC and Principal in recruitment, selection, management, and evaluation of all program personnel.
- Assist the Director of Athletics with the implementation of statewide initiatives.
- Assist the Director of Athletics with the supervision and management of all district UIL activities.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Attendance at work is an essential function.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and/or Superintendent.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise and direct the work of assigned coaches, trainers, and student athletic assistants
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
- Experience serving in a campus leadership role preferred
- 5 years of head coaching experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree
- Master’s degree preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Eligible for coverage under the District’s vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of coaching techniques, strategies, and procedures
- Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules and regulations
- Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
- Ability to interpret data
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
