JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: Coordinate and oversee the implementation of the total athletic program in the high school and corresponding feeder schools with a focus on program development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instruction
- Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.
- Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests and practice sessions that promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Program Management
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Conduct end of year program review for all athletic programs.
- Collaborate with the Director of Athletics and head coaches of each sport to select and purchase necessary equipment and supplies.
- Comply with state and federal laws, State Board of Education Rules and local Board policy.
- Ensure all athletic programs comply with LCISD and UIL policies and procedures.
- Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
- Coordinate and supervise all athletic competitions and practices, including scheduling of events, sites, staff and officials.
- Prepare and administer campus athletic budgets including annual reviews and end of year reports.
Student Management
- Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports.
- Instruct and advise students and parents on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
- Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions and while on trips off school property in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
- Encourage by example and through instruction sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
Communication
- Participate in activities to increase community and parental involvement.
- Demonstrate effective professional communication with students, staff, parents and community at all times.
- Develop a systematic process to ensure that all staff, students, parents and the community are made aware of UIL compliance guidelines.
- Monitor campus based athletic booster clubs.
Administration
- Compile, maintain and file all physical and electronic reports, records and other documents required.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all athletic equipment.
- Oversee process of cleaning, repairing and storing all campus athletic equipment.
- Assist the Director of Athletics and Principal in recruitment, selection, management and evaluation of all program personnel.
- Assist the Director of Athletics with the implementation of statewide initiatives.
- Assist the Director of Athletics with the supervision and management of all district UIL activities.
- Attendance at work is an essential function.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and/or Superintendent.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise assigned coaches, trainers and student athletic assistants
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
- High school head football coach or offensive/defensive coordinator experience
- College football coaching experience may substitute
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree
- Master’s degree preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Eligible for coverage under the District’s vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
- Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules
- Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Ability to concentrate (detailed work), communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; reason, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, memorize, read, coordinate district functions, compile, compute, instruct, and maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district wide and statewide travel, frequent prolonged and irregular hours, outdoor exposure to sun and heat.
