JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose
Coordinating and improving the educational program in grades PK – 12 for performing and visual arts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
1. Coordinate, research and evaluate the instructional programs in Performing & Visual Arts
2. Coordinate and review the selection and adoption of general instructional materials including textbooks and multimedia materials.
3. Plan and implement staff development activities for all performing and visual arts areas.
4. Supervise the development, preparation and implementation of curriculum guides for use by performing and visual arts teachers.
5. Work with fine arts teachers to organize and implement competitions and productions.
6. Keep performing arts teachers informed and up to date regarding applicable TEA and UIL rules.
7. Work with fine arts teachers to implement instructional strategies which support and create connections with the core subject areas to achieve the academic goals of the school district.
8. Provide feedback on the effectiveness of instructional programs to teachers and administrators.
9. Support the implementation of the District curriculum in performing and visual arts.
10. Assist in the district improvement planning process.
11. Attend and, if appropriate, facilitate content specific meetings in fine arts areas.
12. Assist in the coordination of district-wide events and programs.
13. Assist in the supervision of the following programs: speech/debate and dance/drill team.
14. Provide coordination and supervision for performing arts curriculum and extracurricular activities.
15. Coordinate plans with community leaders and fine arts teachers to arrange for school performing groups to participate in community events and programs.
16. Maintain membership and participate in local, state and national organizations related to the fine arts.
17. Attend trainings and stay current on content and strategies in the fine arts areas. 18. Develop standardized specifications and processes for assessing needs for instruments, uniforms, equipment, textbooks and other instructional materials including copyrighted items such as plays and musicals. 19. Attendance at work is an essential function. 20. Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience
- Three years of Performing or Visual Arts teaching experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- Hold a valid Texas certificate
- Valid Texas driver’s license
Preferred Education/Certification:
- Master’s Degree
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Hold a valid Texas certificate
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Eligible for coverage under the District’s vehicle insurance program
