PARKS & RECREATION FIELD ASSISTANT (LTE) (CAMPGROUND HOST)
Department: Forestry, Parks and Recreation
Reports to: Forestry, Parks and Recreation Administrator
Grade/Wage: $320 per week plus free designated campsite, free campfire wood, water, waste dumping, electrical supply and use of facilities for the entire season
FLSA Status/Hours: Seasonal, weekly stipend

Summary:
This position will reside in their own camping unit in an assigned host site in either Jack Lake Campground or Perch Lake Campground for the entire camping season. The host must be able to commit to working from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday of each week from May 15, 2025 through September 21, 2025, including at least 18 of the 20 weekends, including holidays, within that time frame.
In exchange for free designated camping, the Campground Host is expected to be onsite overnight at the host site on all scheduled workdays to provide hospitality and information to other campers including but not limited to assisting with campground reservations, management of campsite tags, check-in and check-out of registered campers, sale of firewood from the host site. The host also monitors the campground for disturbances, advises campers of campground rules and regulations and contacts police, fire, rescue or the Forestry, Parks and Recreation Administrator when issues require more detailed attention.
In addition, completing cleaning and housekeeping of all parks and campground facilities including restrooms, pavilions and cabins during scheduled. Upon completion of cleaning and housekeeping duties, the host will clean and prepare all vacant campsites for future occupancy and complete grounds maintenance of campground areas including lawn mowing, raking of beach areas, weed trimming, collection and disposal of sticks and leaves, and inspections for safety, including identification and reporting of maintenance needs including dangerous trees or limb, tripping hazards or other items of concern. Areas of responsibility will include all campsites and facilities within 1 mile of host site location.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily and in a timely manner. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.
- Serves as the first contact for campers checking into campsites at the respective campground and assist campers as needed. Assistance may include directions to the reserved sites, checking registrations, ensuring posting of reservations on site post, sales of firewood from the host site, and providing information related to camper questions. Campground hosts must be identifiable, visible, and a positive representative of Langlade County.
- Maintain a groomed personal appearance and host campsite. Greets visitors, provides information and answers questions in a courteous and helpful manner.
- Encourages visitors to follow all Langlade County Recreation Area rules and regulations when violations are observed. Contact police or Forestry, Parks and Recreation Staff when violations continue or are flagrant.
- Assists visitors during severe and inclement weather and emergencies as needed.
- Keeps written reports of complaints and criticism of campground facilities, reports situations that could affect the health and safety of visitors, and report any maintenance items which need attention to the Forestry, Parks and Recreation Administrator.
- Completes housekeeping, cleaning resupply and trash removal of all facilities twice daily within the assigned work time schedule. Jack Lake includes 5 restroom facilities, 1 shower building, and the Veteran’s Memorial Park and Beach. Perch Lake includes 7 restroom facilities, 1 shower building, two boat landings and the Charles de Langlade Park area. Assists with other areas when requested by the Forestry, Parks and Recreation Administrator.
- Cleans campsites and fire rings for campsites as needed to prepare sites for new campers.
- Completes light maintenance as needed (i.e. litter pickup, raking, washing tables).
- Assists with groundskeeping activities including but not limited to operation of lawnmowers, weed trimmers and other small equipment required for maintenance of lawns, parking lots, trails, beaches and boat landings managed by the Department as assigned. Jack Lake will include the campground area and Veteran’s Memorial Park. Perch Lake will include the campground area, Charles de Langlade Park, Anninan Lake boat landing and Perch Lake boat landing. Assists with other areas when requested by the Forestry, Parks and Recreation Administrator.
- Maintains and protects the confidentiality of information as deemed necessary.
- Operates county-assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
- Performs any other program-related duties as assigned by the Forest, Parks and Recreation Administrator.

- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Possession of a driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Experience performing facility cleaning and grounds maintenance work desirable.

- Physical condition allowing host to walk the assigned areas several times a day.
- Communication skills allowing public contact with different people or varying backgrounds.
- Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service and teamwork.
Education and/or Experience;
- Demonstrated cleaning, housekeeping or grounds keeping experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to reside in a camping situation for the entire season.
- Driver’s License and driving record which is insurable by Langlade County
- Ability to operate small equipment including lawnmowers, weed trimmers, pressure washers, handsaws and similar equipment.
- Ability to safely operate County vehicles including use of trailers to transport equipment needed in performance of duties.
- Ability to work efficiently and complete specific assignments, while completing cleaning, housekeeping and groundskeeping duties as assigned.
- High level maturity with a strong degree of self-direction and motivation required.
Technological Skills:
- Working knowledge of small equipment and cleaning equipment.
