Athletic Trainer or Orthotic Fitter (1 full-time position)
Fast growing and employee friendly, with an exciting opportunity for an Athletic Trainer or Orthotic Fitter in the Hershey, PA area.
This role involves working closely with professional staff to provide orthotic services, including the evaluation, measurement, fabrication, fitting, and modification of orthopedic appliances. In this role you will operate independently under general supervision while ensuring effective communication with practitioners, patients, and therapists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take precise measurements and create drawings of affected limbs.
- Modify drawings based on measurements and standard techniques.
- Construct orthoses using appropriate materials and techniques, including joint components, side bars, bands, padding, and leather.
- Utilize tools and machinery such as bending irons, drill presses, band saws, grinders, buffers, and sewing machines.
- Fit orthoses to patients, ensuring proper clearances, alignment, and function.
- Consult with higher-level orthotic personnel regarding any fitting or functional issues.
- Modify impressions and models for optimal fit and control.
- Observe lab operations and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Ensure patient safety during evaluation, treatment, and fitting procedures.
- Participate in departmental meetings and educational programs.
- Assist in training and education of students, interns, and residents.
- Complete duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, open to instruction, and able to collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
- Knowledge of standard healthcare policies and procedures, specifically patient confidentiality.
- Ability to work with patients of all ages, considering their specific needs.
- Familiarity with DME applications and common orthopedic and sports medicine surgical procedures.
- Competence in fitting, evaluating, and adjusting orthotic devices for proper function.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a team-oriented setting.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to safety precautions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline.
- Minimum: Certified Athletic Trainer or Registered/Certified Orthotic Technician/Fitter.
- Advanced understanding of orthotic devices, disabilities, and relevant diseases.
- Proficient patient evaluation, casting techniques, and model modification.
