Position overview:
As a Payroll Assistant, you will ensure accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll for all Lawson employees. This role involves handling payroll data, assisting with the calculation of wages, benefits, deductions, and taxes, and maintaining compliance with all relevant labor laws and company policies. You will work closely with Human Resources, Operations, and other departments to ensure smooth payroll operations and accurate financial reporting.
Key responsibilities:
- Process weekly payroll for all Lawson employees
- Ensure compliance with union collective bargaining agreements, California labor laws, and California wage determination law
- Assist in the preparation and submission of union fringe benefit reporting and certified payroll reporting
- Process business expense reimbursement requests
- Prepare weekly tax payments for review and make deposits
- Manage employee garnishments and payments
- Address payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain employee confidence and protect operations by respecting confidentiality
Qualifications and experience:
- Previous payroll experience (union construction experience is a plus)
- Knowledge of California labor compliance regulations and documentation
- Experience with MS Excel and accounting software
- Familiarity with general accounting principles and regulations
- Experience in data collection, entry, and reporting
- Respect for the confidential nature of handling accounting tasks
- Strong communication and relationship building skills
Job Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
Salary: Based on experience. The pay range is $29-$34 per hour. This position is non-exempt.
Work Location: In person at our Sacramento, CA office.
