Senior Counsel

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Counsel is a role for a highly driven, experienced generalist lawyer responsible for providing legal advice and support on cannabis law, compliance, advertising and marketing, technology, software and vendor agreements, privacy and general corporate matters. The role will report directly to the CEO. The Senior Counsel will lead the Legal team and be a member of the Senior Leadership Team at the Company.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Identify and manage legal risks and develop and implement legal strategies to mitigate those risks
  • Cannabis and hemp advertising, content, marketing and promotions compliance and review
  • Review, draft and negotiate a variety of agreements and documents, including technology transactions, strategic partnerships, software and cloud services agreements, licensing, event and sponsorship agreements, advertising agreements, and vendor agreements
  • Review and prepare documentation and internal policies for risk management, privacy, consumer protection and other legal issues
  • Advise on legal issues related to intellectual property, data privacy, and cybersecurity
  • Provide training and guidance to other members of the legal team and other stakeholders on legal matters
  • Manage claims and litigation with the support of outside counsel
  • Provide training and guidance to business stakeholders on legal matters
  • Independently lead partnerships with key stakeholders and work closely with cross-functional business teams to support strategy implementation and growth, while ensuring appropriate governance and controls are in place
  • Assess both legal risk and business impact of decisions, advise on governance matters and assist with Board meeting preparation (i.e. agendas, committee materials)

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 8 years as a practicing lawyer, preferably with cannabis regulatory and advertising experience
  • 3 years leading a legal team / department, preferably in an e-commerce or cannabis business
  • Deep understanding of regulated industries and e-commerce marketplaces
  • An eagerness for hands-on experience, a deep interest in the cannabis and tech space, and a desire to practice as a generalist
  • Astute and practical problem-solver with highly motivated results-oriented approach
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work well independently and collaboratively
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with all internal stakeholders and outside counsel
  • JD from an accredited law school and active state bar
  • In-house experience at a high-growth tech or cannabis company a plus

    Seattle Pay Range

    203,000-$260,000 salary per year

    Salary will be adjusted based on geographic location.
