Job Summary:
A physical education (PE) teacher instructs students about sports, physical development, health, and proper nutrition. A PE teacher has knowledge of sports and the health sciences. Physical education teachers show students not only how to play various sports, but also how physical activity benefits the muscles and overall health. PE teachers also plan activities that help make exercise-based learning more engaging for students.

Physical education teacher jobs require that instructors be physically fit and active as they will typically lead multiple classes and activities across the school day. They work both indoors and outdoors, teaching younger students how to play various sports and how to exercise and monitoring activities of older students.
They are responsible for organizing activities and curriculum, including the preparation and maintenance of gym equipment. PE teachers should have knowledge of sports, basic health, team dynamics, kinesiology, and nutrition for all developmental levels. A solid background in sports and communication skills are required.

Here are some of the important duties and responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement all lessons and activities aligned to the Florida standards.
  • Analyze student performance in PE and HOPE regularly.
  • Plan and run Special Olympics for K-6 students yearly.
  • Participate in Jump rope for Heart and/or other organized physical activities to get students excited and involved.
  • Assist students with disabilities according to their individual needs and abilities.
  • Design and implement exercise programs to improve physical conditioning, increase cardiovascular endurance, and improve muscle tone.
  • Teach students about proper techniques for different types of physical activities and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position, as assigned.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records, and information.

Job Classification: Professional

Reports to: The K-12 PE & HOPE teacher reports to the Director of LiFT Academy.

Education, Experience and/or Knowledge

  • Education: o Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: o Experience in writing lesson plans aligned to the Florida State Standards and accommodations/modifications for special education students. o Experience with and implementation of Service Plans preferred. o Experience working directly with students, parents, and team members to provide guidance to increase academic progress, address challenges, and create opportunities for growth. o Experience working in collaboration with multiple stakeholders including team members, leadership, parents, service providers, and students of all ages. o Experience with successful classroom management techniques. o Experience in other leadership roles preferred.
  • Knowledge: o Knowledge of I.D.E.A. o Knowledge of various educational disabilities. o Knowledge of PE and HOPE instructional best practices. o Operational knowledge of the Internet and web-related technologies. o Possess effective behavioral and classroom management skills. o Portrays great customer service. o Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • A valid Florida Driver's License is required.
  • Successful Completion of a State and Federal FDLE Level 2 Background Screening.
  • Must attain CPR and First Aide Certification within 30 days of employment.
  • A Valid Florida Teaching certificate is required.
  • PCM training is preferred.

Summary of Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
● Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
● Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
● Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
● Have knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
● Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
● Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust strategies.
● Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
● Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws and LiFT Academy’s regulations.
● Prepare required reports on students and activities.
● Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
● Communicate necessary information regularly to students, team members, parents, and the principal regarding student progress and student needs.
● Create an environment that is welcoming and supportive.

Student, and Behavioral Management:

  • Motivate and encourage students in an atmosphere of respect and freedom.
  • In conjunction with all LiFT Team Members, will establish and maintain a safe and secure school environment.
  • Participate in and train students on emergency procedures.

Regulatory, Document, and Records Management:

  • Documentation related to regulatory, licensing and funding bodies is completed in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (I.D.E.A.) and implements all requirements.
  • Knowledge and implementation of mandatory reporters for abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Responsible for recording behavioral observations and incidents in a thorough and timely manner. These reports must be entered into FACT SIS.
  • Document all significant conversations with parents/guardians whether it is a phone call, email, or face to face meeting in FACTS SIS in the parent teacher conference section.
  • Team members are required to respond to all email correspondence within 24 hours of receipt and check their physical mailbox regularly and respond timely.

Family and Community Relations;

  • Schedule and facilitate conferences with students, parents, principal and/or supportive personnel regarding academic and social development.
  • Recognize that parent and family contributions are vital to educational and behavioral goal achievements.
  • May be asked to participate in community and media relations by attending and/or speaking at events.

Professional Development;

  • Will participate in all professional development activities offered by the Administration. Online and off-campus opportunities may become available.
  • Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification

Additional Expectations;

  • Professional dress attire for PE and HOPE.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
  • Evening and Saturday hours as required due to activities, meetings, and events.
  • Participate on committees as needed.

Terms of Employment:

  • Employment with LiFT Inc. is At Will
  • Work Basis: Monday through Friday 40 hours/week. Days and Hours may vary.
  • Regular attendance; 100% onsite; strict adherence to work schedule.
  • Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with LiFT’s approved compensation plan.
  • Performance Evaluations conducted two times per school year at minimum.

Travel:
Some local travel/driving may be required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee may work outside. The employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis as well as speak frequently. Employee must be able to move quickly from place to place on occasion over smooth to uneven surfaces on the playground or on grass. Walk through classroom and be able to maneuver tight spaces, e.g., between desks. When dealing with students it may entail kneeling, squatting, stooping, and bending on an occasional to frequent basis on a given day.
