Are you passionate about building and promoting community resilience? We’re seeking an Emergency Management Coordinator to join our team. In this role, you’ll provide consultative assistance to local agencies, ensuring they’re well-prepared for disaster situations.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Emergency Preparedness: Collaborate with local agencies to develop and maintain emergency preparedness, response, and recovery plans. Stay up-to-date with local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to emergency and disaster operations.
- Emergency Response: Be available for after-hours response assignments. Assess situations under emergency conditions and provide recommendations for effective courses of action. Demonstrate leadership and initiative during crisis situations.
- Access & Functional Needs Program Development: Design and implement programs that ensure accessibility for individuals with functional needs, both during emergencies and regular operations.
- The purpose of this class within the organization is to provide planning and lead work for the Emergency Operations Center.
- This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
- Leads and maintains the Special Needs Registration Program in accordance with relevant Florida statutes; receives, evaluates, and modifies resident health information, documentation, and relevant forms.
- Develops systems and programs to ensure notification, transportation, shelter, re-entry and post-event disaster survivor assistance with state and local partner agencies, for database registrants.
- Work with disability organizations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to identify the needs of people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs during emergencies.
- Chair the Access & Functional Needs working group.
- Develop and implement strategies to ensure that emergency preparedness plans are inclusive and address the unique needs of diverse populations including individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and non-English speakers.
- Serve as a facilitator between the disability community and the Emergency Operations Center, promoting integration and inclusion throughout the incident lifecycle.
- Liaise with dialysis centers, medical foster care homes, and other health-related agencies to ensure inclusive emergency management practices.
- Plans with staff for equipment needs; obtains new equipment for Emergency Management through Public Safety Logistics or directly from vendors.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree or specialized courses/training.
- Two years of college in public administration, emergency management, or a closely related field.
- Two years of emergency management or closely related experience.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.
Preferred Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, emergency management, public health, or closely related field.
- FEMA ICS and NIMS Courses.
- Familiarity with the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Community Lifelines Construct.
- Knowledge of principles, procedures, and processes of the Incident Command System (ICS).
- Knowledge of the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP).
- Understanding of radio communications.
