Summary/Objective
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist provides oversight for the daily operations of the Office of Human Resources including employment actions and employee relations, talent management and organizational development, onboarding and retention, administration of performance management, and other human resources related functions, and assist the Office of Finance and Accounting with compensation and benefits administration. This position is responsible for ensuring policies, guidelines, procedures, workflows, and human resources information systems are in compliance with applicable employment laws. The Human Resources Generalist position will work closely with college leadership. This position will support human resources and employee benefits information systems, policies and procedures, and will assist in the implementation of processes and procedures that increase service to college operations.
Essential Functions
  • Provides management oversight of human resource management information systems and applicant tracking systems. Ensures timely and accurate processing of all employment related transactions including new employee hiring, terminations, benefit or compensation changes, and associated employment record management actions.
  • Provides advice, guidance, training, and consultative support on employment related matters to supervisors, hiring managers, and search committees. Serves as initial point of contact for applicants, new hires, supervisors and managers, and for all other human resource needs.
  • Advises and coaches managers and supervisors on performance improvement strategies or progressive discipline options, maintaining compliance with college policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Supports the Office of Finance and Accounting with day-to-day administration of employee benefits including education and support for employees with questions about employee benefits programs. Serve as a resource and liaison for training as applicable.
  • Assist the Director of Human Resources with the college’s annual performance evaluation program. Actively engage with managers to train and assist them in writing effective performance reviews and having successful performance conversations on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist in administering a variety of programs to recognize staff performance and contributions to their role and the college.
  • Create and conduct new employee and new supervisor onboarding and training programs. Facilitate or conduct training sessions via in-classroom instruction or via on-line instruction.
  • Assists the Director of Human Resources in the development and implementation of new and revised policies, forms, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Manage background checks and other related new hire verifications such as I-9 verifications.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
Normal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel is not expected for this position.

Required Qualifications
Required Education and Experience

  • Business degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or a related field, or in lieu of a degree, 5 years of Human Resources experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of professional human resources administration experience.
  • Working knowledge of manual and automated human resources management information systems, well developed analytical capabilities, and demonstrated proficiency in computer and enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Training and/or organizational development experience.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups and facilitate discussion.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years professional human resources administration experience that includes at least two (2) years of experience in a similar role.
  • SHRM or HRCI certification.
  • Experience with a not-for-profit or educational institution.
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague and/or PeopleSoft TMS.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
