PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Director for Health Promotion & Wellness within the Student Health and Well-Being department reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Student Health and Well-Being. This role is primarily responsible for coordinating efforts to promote student health and wellness, focusing on reducing interpersonal and gender-based violence, substance abuse prevention, and fostering peer-to-peer connections. The ideal candidate will possess experience in health promotion, wellness education, and advocacy, as well as knowledge of health behavior principles and effective programming. To be successful in this position, the individual must excel at collaborating with faculty, staff, and students, developing and implementing impactful health promotion initiatives, and ensuring inclusive programming that addresses historic inequities in healthcare access and wellness outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Program Development and Implementation

  • Design and implement health promotion and wellness programs focused on reducing interpersonal violence, substance abuse, and enhancing peer-to-peer connections.
  • Assess student health and wellness needs through tools like the National College Health Assessment (ACHA) survey, using data to inform program planning and evaluation.
  • Develop strategies to measure program outcomes and learning objectives, adjusting programs based on assessment results.
  • Oversee the implementation of harm-reduction models in substance abuse prevention programming.
  • Seek and manage grant funding to support health promotion programs, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.


Training and Education

  • Develop and deliver training for student peer educators in the facilitation of health education workshops promoting sexual health and consent and substance use harm reduction.
  • Coordinate certification training for Confidential Advocates, and ensure ongoing professional development related to the advocacy and support of survivors of interpersonal or gender-based violence
  • Create and lead health promotion activities and presentations for students, faculty, and staff on topics such as substance use, sexual health and consent, and interpersonal violence.
  • Oversee mandatory wellness training modules for incoming and returning students, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Provide health education interventions and advocacy to individual students.


Supervision and Staff Management

  • Recruit, train, and supervise graduate assistants and undergraduate student employees, ensuring effective performance and professional development.
  • Supervise Confidential Advocates, ensuring they are certified by the State of Oregon and receive regular training and support.
  • Provide leadership to peer education programs and wellness initiatives, ensuring alignment with departmental goals. Includes coordination with academic programs to offer and supervise internship or practicum opportunities.


Collaboration and Consulting

  • Consult with administrative staff, faculty, students, and parents on health promotion and wellness issues, providing expertise and guidance on effective interventions.
  • Represent the college on state and local committees, such as the Oregon Sexual Assault Task Force, advocating for student health and wellness.
  • Collaborate with on- and off-campus stakeholders to expand wellness programming and ensure access to necessary resources for students.
  • Advocate for survivor rights and health policy changes as part of the Title IX team.


Administrative and Communication Duties

  • Manage Health Promotion budgets, ensuring adherence to college financial guidelines for operations and grants.
  • Oversee marketing and communication efforts related to health promotion programs, including maintaining the departmental website and social media accounts to engage students
  • Lead biennial assessment of AOD programs for Drug-Free School and Communities Act report
  • Respond promptly to inquiries via email, voicemail, and departmental accounts, ensuring timely communication and support.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state legislation related to health promotion and wellness on college campuses.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & BEHAVIORS

  • Proficient in health behavior principles, theories, and practices relevant to college students' wellness.
  • Excellent in designing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programs, ensuring alignment with student needs and institutional goals.
  • Superior knowledge of substance use and abuse prevention models, particularly harm-reduction strategies.
  • Extremely skilled in developing and delivering training on sexual health, consent, and interpersonal violence prevention.
  • Proficient in using data analysis tools, such as the National College Health Assessment (ACHA), to assess student health needs and program effectiveness.
  • Excellent in communication, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Superior in group facilitation and leading engaging workshops on sensitive health topics.
  • Highly proficient in using software like Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Forms, Sheets, Docs) for program management and communication.
  • Extremely skilled in managing budgets, ensuring that program expenditures stay within limits set by the college.
  • Excellent in supervising and mentoring staff, fostering professional growth and teamwork among graduate assistants, student employees, and peer educators.
  • Proficient in maintaining confidentiality and managing sensitive information in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Superior commitment to promoting inclusion in the workplace, ensuring that all health promotion initiatives and programming are inclusive of diverse identities and experiences, particularly for historically marginalized groups.
  • Excellent in collaborating with a wide range of campus and community stakeholders to ensure comprehensive health support services for students.



REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in health promotion, wellness education, or related areas.
  • Two years of experience in sexual violence prevention, substance abuse prevention, or similar advocacy programs.
  • Experience developing and implementing health-related programs for college students.



PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Doctoral degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Current CHES certification
  • Five years of experience in program management or health promotion.
  • Five years of experience in administering sexual/interpersonal violence risk reduction or prevention programs.



WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full Time: 11 month employee, 37.5 hours a week, 0.91 FTE
  • Benefits Eligible: Yes
  • Hybrid/Remote: This position will require in-person presence on campus for health promotion activities and training.
  • Travel: Occasional travel required for conferences, workshops, or community collaboration.



PAY RATE

  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Starting at $63,000
