Position Summary
The Area/Regional Safety Coordinator works with site management under the direction of the Division Safety Manager to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. This position is deemed ‘safety sensitive’ due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee’s co-workers, and/or the public at large.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Audit job sites to identify potential hazards and indicators of unsafe behavior and then develop and recommend corrective measures to ensure safe work performance and compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies and procedures.
- Asist in the development and implementation of safety practices and procedures, while implementing site safety plans at worksites within their region of responsibility.
- Perform safety orientations, daily/weekly safety meetings and various types of safety related training to help ensure workforce is prepared to perform their tasks safely.
- Assist the division Safety Manager as needed in the investigation of job related injuries and accidents. Complete required incident investigation reports and assist claims personnel with claim resolution.
- Provide first aid to employees for work related injuries.
- Conduct substance abuse screens in compliance with company policy.
- Maintain records as required by OSHA and company policy.
- The ability to work overtime and regular, punctual attendance is required.
- The ability to travel in the area of responsibility weekly is required
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years’ construction or manufacturing Safety experience and/or 5 years’ construction/manufacturing experience. Current Red Cross or equivalent approved First Aid and CPR Certification. Must be able to respond to emergency situations and medical trauma in a calm, controlled manner. Must have excellent oral communication skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. A current driver’s license with an excellent driving history is required. Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
Physical Demands
Overtime, weekend work, odd hours, and overnight travel as required. Ability to climb stairs, and ladders. Ability to walk in excess of five miles per day. Must be able to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds occasionally and carry 25 pounds frequently. Must be able to tolerate temperature fluctuations and a dusty, loud environment. All the physical demands listed are essential functions.
