Vice President of Human Resources Position Summary

The Vice President of Human Resources is a key leadership role responsible for developing and executing HR strategies that align with the company’s business objectives. This role will oversee all aspects of recruiting, employee development, retention, employee relations, succession planning, and compliance. The VP will lead a team of Division HR Managers across our divisions and work closely with the Director of HR Shared Services and the Director of Training and Development.

Vice President of Human Resources Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Lead company-wide recruiting strategies to attract top talent across construction trades and professional roles to ensure we are meeting hiring needs in quality of hire and speed to fill.
  • Drive pipeline development through partnerships with trade schools, vocational colleges, and universities.
  • Ensure hiring processes align with company culture and operational needs.

Employee Development & Retention

  • Oversee career development programs, leadership training, and succession planning.
  • Work with Training and Development to implement programs that enhance skills and engagement.
  • Develop strategies to improve retention, reduce turnover, and maintain a positive work environment.

Employee Relations & Culture

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to leadership on employee relations and workplace policies.
  • Promote a culture of respect, recognition, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure fair and consistent application of company policies and disciplinary procedures.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Partner with legal and operational leadership to mitigate HR-related risks.
  • Maintain compliance with industry-specific workforce regulations, including safety and labor laws.

HR Strategy & Leadership

  • Align HR strategies with business objectives to support company growth.
  • Serve as a key member of the HR leadership team, contributing to high-level decision-making.
  • Foster collaboration between HR teams to optimize efficiency and consistency across divisions.

Vice President of Human Resources Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field (master’s preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably in the construction or industrial sector.
  • Certifications: SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent preferred.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and people management abilities.
  • Hands-on leadership style, willing to roll up your sleeves and pitch in when needed to develop a deeper understanding of our tools and processes to drive improvements.
  • Deep knowledge of labor laws, compliance, and HR best practices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in fast-paced, multi-site organizations.
  • Strong computer and administration skills, including proficiency across a range of HR technologies and the full range of Microsoft Suite.

Vice President of Human Resources Physical Demands

Some overtime, weekend work, and travel is required. Work sites will require the ability to walk through construction areas and meet all safety requirements for the field (steel toe boots, walking across uneven surfaces, exposure to outdoor elements). Must be able to sit for long periods of time working directly on a computer. All the physical demands listed are essential functions.
