Job Description: Director of Accounting
Location: New York City
Company: A leading inventory-based distribution company
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Accounting to join our team. This is a newly created position reporting directly to the CFO. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting within an inventory-based distribution company and possess extensive experience with ERP systems, including learning and implementing new systems. The company offers Fortune 500 benefits and the ability to come into the office 1-2 times a month.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
Manage the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
Lead the implementation of a new ERP system, including training staff and ensuring a smooth transition from the legacy system.
Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate with other departments to support business objectives and provide financial insights.
Prepare and present financial reports to senior management and stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
(Required) Must come from a company with an inventory-based background, preferably in distribution.
Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within an inventory-based distribution company.
(Required) Proven experience with ERP systems, including learning and implementing new systems.
(Required) Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
