Job Summary
Liberty County Board of Commissioners is currently accepting applications for the seasonal position of Lifeguard within the Recreation Department. This position is responsible for ensuring safety and enforcing rules at the LCRD community pools. This position is part-time with pay depending on experience.Major Job Duties
- Performs water rescues and administers emergency care and first aid.
- Identifies safety issues or concerns in the pool area.
- Maintains lifeguard equipment and supplies.
- Assists in maintaining; regulating; and monitoring pool chemical levels.
- Closely monitors pool activities; reports any accidents; problems; or unusual incidents occurring at the pool.
- Opens and closes pool according to pool hours.
- Closely monitors weather reports and directing swimmers out of the water during dangerous conditions.
- Provides swim lessons.
- Collects admission fees; monitors the number of admitted patrons and issues clothing baskets.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 15 years of age at or before the date of employment.
- Must have a current or acquire a Red Cross Lifeguard Certification; to include training in First Aid and CPR.
- Must be able to swim 300 yards; dive to 12 feet to retrieve a 10 pound brick; & tread water for two (2) minutes.
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to work at multiple locations. (Midway - Liberty County Community Complex; Hinesville - Liberty Independent Troop Park)
Physical Demands
- The work is typically performed while intermittently swimming; sitting; standing; walking; crouching; bending or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.
- The work is typically performed outdoors in or near pools. The employee is exposed to pool chemicals; noise; dust; dirt; grease; machinery with moving parts; and occasional inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks; goggles; or gloves.
Compensation
This is a seasonal (summer) position with no benefits. Work hours may vary, not to exceed 40 hours a week. Pay grade is between 8B ($16.16/hour) and 9C ($17.32/hour) and is based on experience.Application Special Instructions
