Job Summary:
The Shipping & Receiving Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of inventory control, receiving, and shipping. This position supervises, directs, and leads hourly employees to meet specific operational goals that align with the overall company objectives. Success in this role is driven by a focus on process efficiency, quality, accuracy, and safety metrics. The manager will ensure the efficient flow of finished goods from the point of origin to the point of consumption while continuously improving operational performance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage the Shipping and Receiving teams, providing continuous performance assessments, identifying training needs, and implementing improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate logistics service providers, assess their effectiveness, suggest improvements, and make changes as needed to enhance service levels.
- Organize and maintain 5S practices for finished inventory to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient environment.
- Manage and maintain schedules to ensure timely production and delivery.
- Oversee the management of shipping and receiving paperwork and documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure on-time production and delivery by managing resources and coordinating with logistics teams.
- Conduct quality audits and resolve any issues related to shipping and receiving processes.
- Analyze operational performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to increase efficiency.
- Advise operations teams daily of any shortages or potential delays that may impact production or delivery.
- Collaborate with other department managers and staff to ensure production and shipping needs are met effectively across all teams.
Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum of 2-4 years of prior management experience in a shipping, receiving, or inventory control environment.
- Strong knowledge and experience in shipping, receiving, and inventory control processes.
- Ability to interpret and manage domestic and international shipping documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate responsibilities effectively.
- Knowledge of 5S principles and the ability to apply them to maintain an organized, safe, and efficient work environment.
- Ability to develop, track, and present performance metrics to senior management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ability to learn new technologies.
- Capable of lifting and moving up to 70 lbs safely.
- Forklift experience is preferred.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional qualifications in logistics or supply chain management are a plus.
Compensation:
Between $70,000. and $75,000 annually. Paid bi-weekly
