As a Crisis Department Training Specialist you will empower, uplift and train Crisis Unit and Urgent Recovery staff to assist consumers in healing from the many forms of mental illness, trauma or addiction.
To meet the increasing needs of our communities it is imperative that all team members understand and successfully reach and maintain the expected performance standard levels. In order to achieve total and sustainable success each person must do their part. Lighthouse will do its part in providing any and all necessary tools and training required to help team members be successful.
DEFINITION:
Under immediate to general supervision, will train all staff in the crisis unit/urgent recovery program to provide a welcoming environment so that all consumers and community partners feel engaged with Lighthouse. The Crisis Department Training Specialist will provide training in de-escalation skills and monitor and provide feedback to assigned staff. The Crisis Department Training Specialist will work with the training team to develop training protocols and programs for the crisis unit and urgent recovery staff. Training will be focused on the strengths, preferences and culture of consumers. This position is supervised by the respective Chief Clinical Compliance Officer (CCCO).
Qualifications and Benefits
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor or Master Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Criminal Justice or similar field approved by ODMHSAS; or
- A current license as a registered nurse in Oklahoma; or
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in any field and proof of active progression toward obtaining a clinical licensure Master's or Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited college or university recognized by the USDE.
- Two year of work experience in the mental health or social service field with at least one year directly providing services to individuals in crisis. Must have experience working with community partners.
- Behavioral Health Case Management Certification and Behavioral Health Wellness Coach Certification is required within the first three months of employment and must be kept current annually.
- Current certification as a Behavioral Health Case Manager II as described in ODMHSAS Standards ad Criteria for Certified Behavioral Health Case Managers 450:50-3-1; and
- An expectation of core competencies in relation to crisis services, as well as individuals with co-occurring disorders. Must be knowledgeable about trauma informed care.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work and/or psychology; and of current social and economic problems, principles of family economics and budgeting, human relations, community, state and national health and welfare resources, social assistance requirements, and psychological terminology.
- Knowledge of transitional and/or aftercare needed after a crisis or hospitalization and the unique situations that may arise as consumers attempt to engage in outpatient services.
- Ability to evaluate situations and adopt an effective course of action, to delegate responsibilities, organize and present facts effectively.
- Able to establish working relationships within an integrated team to coordinate and facilitate care.
- Ability to work effectively and courteously with staff and consumers from various cultures and backgrounds, and to exercise good clinical judgment.
- Able to effectively communicate and provide training to staff within the crisis programs.
- Must be able to develop training presentations. Demonstrated ability to speak in front of large groups of people, give in the moment feedback, and follow up with appropriate leadership.
- Proficient in Microsoft office, proficient at time management and organization.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Strong interpersonal skills, adept in collaboration, and ability to relate effectively with all crisis staff.
- Knowledge and understanding of staff roles in the crisis units.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position is responsible and held accountable for the following duties:
- Completes and maintains certification in de-escalation safety and restraint training. Will become a Therapeutics Options trainer.
- Effectively employs de-escalation strategies and demonstrate appropriate Therapeutic Options holds, escape, and evasion techniques, as deemed necessary.
- Participate in debriefing after safety incidents with front line staff and crisis leadership.
- Will assess and evaluate staff skills and areas for improvement.
- Develop essential skills for crisis staff and train and monitor on those skills.
- Review camera footage on a random basis to identify positive interactions with consumers and community partners and determine training needs and coaching.
- Plays an active role in responding to crisis situations and provide in the moment feedback as well as facilitating the debrief with front line staff as appropriate.
- Will be a resource to all crisis staff as a source for learning, modeling, and open questioning, and dialogue.
- Will report any concerns to CCCO and site supervisors regarding the training and progress of assigned staff.
- Develop and implement training: development, informational, and/or educational programs, courses, curricula, training resources, materials, and visual aids. May develop training manuals or scripts to be utilized by staff.
- Present training via classroom or seminar using formal classroom instruction, exercises, handouts, materials, visual aids, etc. for group or one-on-one instruction. Develop training as outlined by ODMHSAS requirements.
- Services as an agency liaison with ODMHSAS participates in any required meetings by ODMHSAS as the crisis trainer as assigned.
- Provide crisis management and stabilization as needed.
- Must be willing to work irregular shifts to train and monitor staff during the evening, nights, and weekend shifts.
- Employee must be willing and able to perform all job related travel normally associated with this position. Will be travelling all Lighthouse CSU/URC locations to train and monitor staff in those programs.
- May participates in staff meetings for purposes of training, coaching, and mentoring assigned staff.
- In conjunction with the CCCO and Lighthouse leadership, establishes the Lighthouse culture and expectations for crisis services.
- Must meet “satisfactory” expectations at any scheduled job performance evaluation, coaching and/or Performance Improvement Plans.
- Assessment and appraisal of quality of work will be evaluated through training, skill, chart review or special purpose.
- Must complete Lighthouse required training and resulting follow up and consultation as required at hire, annually and as directed by Supervisor.
- Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or other management as requested.
- Must perform the specific job duties as listed above to meet position expectations.
In addition, must possess skill in working cooperatively and effectively with clients, staff, management and other professional and community groups; in exercising mature judgment in dealing with people; in presenting ideas clearly and accurately; in reading and comprehending the English language; and in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
