LightMHK is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that is seeking a Program Director. This position will be contracted, and it will be part time with flexible hours. The Program Director will work from home (home office) while championing the mission of LightMHK throughout Manhattan, Riley County, KS and the surrounding communities. The candidate must reside in the Greater Manhattan, KS area. This position will require working from a home office and also in and around Manhattan, KS.

LightMHK was established under the name “Katie’s Way Charities” in 2018. LightMHK supports mental health and wellness in the Greater Manhattan area by helping to remove barriers to care for those struggling with mental health challenges.

Primary responsibilities of this contract position are in the following areas:

Leadership & Management:

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
  • Actively engage and energize LightMHK volunteers, board members, committees, partnering organizations, and funders.
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for ongoing operations.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain LightMHK's Resource Development Coordinator and any other Contract Staff or Volunteers.
  • Oversight and Diversity fundraising, including any and all events, grant applications, correspondences, rewards, final reports, and data.
  • Ensuring that the organization is compliant with all federal and state filings – annual reporting, registration with the state as a non profit, tax filings, etc.
  • Provide all financial contribution information to the organizations treasurer and/or accountant, work closely with the accountant to obtain accurate financials for reporting to the board.

Fundraising & Marketing/Communications:

  • Working with the Resource Development Coordinator, expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations - grant writing.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.
  • Publishes and communicate program results with an emphasis on the successes of the program.
  • Developing and maintaining Marketing efforts to include: “Success Story” media, for mailing, printing, social media with emphasis on LightMHK’s accomplishments that will go to mental health providers, donors, and interested community members. Updating the website. Keeping LightMHK active on social media platforms.

Planning & Development:

  • Board Management; Updating, reporting to, and meeting with the board of directors quarterly and as needed: Preparing agendas, and compiling all materials for meetings.
  • Assist with Board Member recruiting and managing all records and documents of the organization, minutes, agendas, etc.
  • Develop annual plan with budget to support the attainment of goals and objectives set by the board of directors.
  • Measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
  • Build partnerships and establish relationships with the funders, political and community leaders, mental health providers and donors networking with the community, attending events, speaking, creating connections, doing interviews, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Prior Non Profit experience preferred.
  • Ability to work from home office.
  • Commitment to LightMHK’s mission and to mental health awareness/care.
  • Understanding of nonprofit laws and responsibilities.
  • Understanding of the board of director’s responsibilities and a willingness to work in tandem.
  • A positive, trustworthy personality with networking and relationship-building abilities.
  • Proficient writing skills for publications, forms, and correspondences.
  • Strong marketing sensibilities; tech and social media skills.
  • Budget, bookkeeping and general accounting awareness.
  • Speak in public and on media channels.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services/Social Work or other related field.
  • And/or 2-3 yrs on the job/personal experience.
