Mentor Coordinator - LINK Grinnell
Function:
The applicant will oversee mentoring matches at Grinnell area elementary schools. They will be responsible for matching volunteer mentors with children, and to monitor those matches to ensure the healthy development of the relationships.
The Mentor Coordinator will work within the guidelines, policies and mission of LINK and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities:
- accept and document applications of potential volunteers and children (including parent, guardian, child, etc.)
- manage intake of children and volunteers including orientation, interviewing, screening etc.
- work to recruit potential mentors throughout the year, interview them and run background checks
- inform volunteers of their acceptance or rejection
- inform families of the reasons for the denial of service or for the closing of a match
- contact schools/teachers as appropriate for assessment input
- conduct the Pre-Match Training program with Mentors, Mentees and parents/guardians
- maintain case notes on all matches
- facilitate match closure process for Mentor, Mentee and parent/guardian
- provide regular reports to Executive Director and LINK Mentoring Advisory Committee
or occasional special reports as requested
- maintain strict confidentiality as outlined in LINK Mentoring Privacy and Confidentiality
Policy
- perform administrative functions as required to manage caseload
- participate on committees as required
- design, coordinate and supervise quarterly events for mentors, mentees and their families
- complete a yearly performance appraisal including goals and objectives for the coming year
- positively represent LINK as needed to school and community members.
Qualifications
LINK is looking for a compassionate, energetic person to join our mentoring team. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree preferably in education, social or human services, child and youth development, family studies, etc. or comparable life experience.
In addition to this, the applicant should have:
- effective oral and written communication skills
- strong problem solving skills
- ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
- ability to work independently and as part of a team
- sound computer skills
- ability to work flexible hours
- access to a vehicle
Rate and Hours:
Hours of work 10-15 hours per week during the school year. Hours flex week to week depending on time of year. Occasional evening or weekend hours. Minimal work responsibilities during school summer break. Availability 11a.m. to 1 p.m. most days M-F when school is in session to monitor matches at school buildings.
Starting Wage: $13.50 per hour
