Position Description - Engineering Director
Location – Novi, Michigan
Travel – Up to 25%
Compensation – Competitive salary, bonus, and benefits package (including health and 401k)
This role will be responsible for organizing the engineering department for a metal tank company, maintaining the engineering system of record, supporting sales with timely cost estimates for proposals, and addressing special engineering-sales requests. In the future, the Engineering Director will be responsible for building out the engineering department with design engineers capable of designing tanks and the associated fabrications, and manufacturing engineers capable of translating the fabrication designs into manufacturing plans that can be used by a supply chain manager and fabrications shops (ultimately a company owned and operated fab facility) to produce these items.
The Engineering Director will be required to perform the following:
Develop & Implement:
- Engineering System of Record
- Catalog of standard parts and accessories (designs/drawings/specifications/BOMs)
- Automated CAD/CAM Intelligent 3D models of company tanks
- Single source of data for all downstream documentation & workflows
- Updates – automatically reflected in all referenced drawings
- Reduced errors in field erection and fab shops
- Clean/clear/accurate communications
- Automated generation of project Bill of Materials (BOM) and parts lists
- Nest sheet metal components and program CAM tool paths
- Finite Element Analysis to streamline structural and seismic review and approval
- Lead program, obtain, and maintain an ISO:9001 QMS program for the company
- Compile library of various related tank industry standards. Maintain tank design compliance with applicable standards.
- Support sales with an accurate quoting tool that utilizes input design parameters from sales / users, material and labor quantities from a modelling tool, and cost tables. Maintain and refine quoting tool parameters.
- Secure, manage and interface with outside engineering services consulting on PE Stamps, structural, seismic, etc.
- Interface as needed with steel suppliers and other suppliers of accessories and ancillary equipment, including ladders, platforms, mixers, nozzles, piping, insulation, etc.
- Lead & Manage Project Management Team – refine PM processes, workflow, roles & responsibilities. Develop & track performance KPIs and PM reporting.
- Oversee coordination between Project Management, Supply Chain, and Field Construction (Superintendents)
- Outline & Execute Long Term Engineering Program Development Path
- Build roles, responsibilities, processes & workflow for:
- Design Engineering (~ ultimate headcount 2)
- Manufacturing Engineering (~ ultimate headcount 1)
- Supply Chain Management (~1) and collaborate with Finance on its execution
- Report to the Leadership Team weekly
- Participate in and provide engineering support for Continuous Constructability Efficiency & Capacity Improvement Program
