Liquid Transport, part of the Dana Companies and a leader in the transportation industry, has an immediate opening for an Experienced Dispatcher at their North Charleston, SC terminal.
The Dispatcher efficiently coordinates drivers, equipment, and resources to ensure safe and timely delivery of customer orders while adhering to company policies and applicable laws. This role supports safety initiatives, manages communications, and maintains accurate records of driver and equipment
DISPATCHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Load Assignment and Coordination
- Assign loads to qualified drivers and equipment as required with regard to training, compliance and suitability. To qualify, ensure
- Drivers are properly trained for assigned products and equipment.
- Equipment is suitable for the product.
- Both tractor and trailer comply with Company and governmental inspections.
- Drivers comply will all required training and certifications (i.e., current D.O.T. physical, current driver’s license).
- Driver can perform all tasks safely, given all circumstances related to the dispatch.
- Communicate delivery requirements clearly to drivers.
- Monitor and update the status of drivers and equipment in the dispatch system.
Safety Management
- Prioritize safety in all dispatch decisions and communications.
- Conduct regular and monthly safety discussions with drivers.
- Ensure drivers comply with certifications, training, and inspections.
- Report and document incidents or accidents promptly and accurately.
- Ensure that Safety & Service posters are current and visible.
- Complete incident/accident telephone reports in a timely, objective, and consistent manner as required following the progressive discipline (PAR) policy.
- Document assurance that consequences of non-conformance will not reoccur.
Order Management
- Receive and log customer orders and ensure accurate data entry, including Tank Wash P.O. numbers when required.
- Assign loads and equipment to meet customer requirements and deadlines.
- Prepare and issue delivery documentation and verify driver paperwork completion.
- Update computerized dispatch to drivers, always know driver location, and notify drivers of any computer-generated service alerts.
Customer Communication
- Provide timely updates on load progress and delays.
- Notify customers of service exceptions or alternative schedules when needed.
Administrative Support
- Update the system with driver and equipment availability.
- Collaborate with the Load Planning Center and Terminal Manager for seamless operations.
- Assist with Quality Process initiatives, including investigating incidents and responding to customer concerns.
- Perform Terminal Manager duties when required.
DISPATCHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in trucking or transportation industry, preferably in dispatch strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Intermediate proficiency in using general office software including applications for word processing and email.
- Intermediate proficiency with dispatch software and logistics tools (e.g., TMW IT platform and Peoplenet ELD) preferred.
DISPATCHER SCHEDULE:
- Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm
- Serve in an on-call capacity, on a rotational basis, after 3-6 months training
