Job Description
We have an opening for a Mechanical Technologists / Sr. Mechanical Technologist to support the LIDSS Product Development Group. The group is —a fast-paced, cross-disciplinary team that specializes in rapid development of reliable flight test data-collection assets. Your focus will primarily be supporting the group’s drone capability, but you will also support other projects within the group as needed. Your daily work will be conducted in-person at LLNL’s Livermore site. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED) / Weapon Technologies and Engineering (WTE) Program, supporting the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Principal Directorate.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
In this role you will
- Design, fabricate, assemble, disassemble, upgrade, and retrofit moderately complex electro-mechanical components and systems, using work control process and procedure requirements.
- Provide general technical support to engineering, scientific, and technical staff in deploying and operating the Livermore Independent Diagnostic Scoring System (LIDSS) in various locations around the world.
- Participate in indoor & outdoor drone-related experiments and flight tests. Conduct setup, preflight, and calibration procedures, and assist in the collection of experimental data.
- Provide operations, maintenance, design, fabrication, assembly support, and produce & maintain systems documentation and experimental records.
- Operate mechanical diagnostic equipment, maintain area controls, assist with mechanical diagnostic calibration and alignment, test prior to experiment execution, and perform data recovery after experiment execution.
- Apply intermediate knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes in solving mechanical problems.
- Perform facility related and technical functions such as maintenance, testing, upgrades to equipment control, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
