Job Description - Athletic Field/Grounds Worker

Summary:
Athletic Field/Grounds Workers are responsible for performing a variety of duties in order to maintain and repair park grounds and equipment. This is a part time/seasonal position (March-November) working an average of 20-40 hours per week and requires a flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays. Shifts will vary between the hours of 6:00 am to 10:30 pm.

Qualifications:
Must be willing to learn methods and materials used in grounds and sports field maintenance/construction work. Must have physical strength, stamina and agility. Must show ability to follow oral and written instructions. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Immediate Supervisor:
Athletic Field/Grounds Workers are responsible to the Director of Park Services and the Athletic Field Specialist.

Essential Functions:
1. Perform all daily operational tasks as assigned.
2. Provide turf care through mowing, edging, trimming and irrigating.
3. Prepare athletic fields by dragging, lining and set up.
4. Ensure that the facility is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
5. Monitor sporting events/tournaments to ensure the needs of the renters/facility are met.
6. Returns all equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility; and cleans maintenance areas.
7. Perform all tasks within the rules and guidelines of the district’s safety program.
8. Complete all other duties as assigned.

Psychological Considerations:
Athletic Field/Grounds Workers must work closely with co-workers. Must work around the general population/park patrons in public areas and must work under supervision and direction of superiors.

Environmental Considerations:
Will be exposed to the elements when completing outdoor functions including prolonged exposure to cold, heat, sun, wind, rain and snow.

Physiological Considerations:
May be required to sit, stand, kneel or perform manual labor for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift heavy objects.

Cognitive Considerations:
Athletic Field/Grounds Workers must be able to follow directions from their supervisor with safe follow through. Must use good safety awareness and judgement.
