The Wheatland Athletic Association (WAA) is a leading organization in providing youth athletic programs to residents in Naperville, Aurora and the surrounding areas. We are looking for talented, passionate and customer service driven individuals to join the WAA Team! We are in the process of expanding our home facility with the addition of an outdoor turf field, new in-house batting cages and developing even more quality youth sports programs. Position: Athletic Field Maintenance (Part Time)
Job Purpose: To assist in maintaining WAA athletic fields at a high standard of safety, cleanliness and provide quality field conditions. The maintenance crew takes pride in delivering positive practice and home game experiences for all WAA teams.
Essential Responsibilities:
· Takes direction and supervision from the Field Maintenance Supervisor.
· Efficiently meets deadlines for WAA field maintenance, equipment needs and game time preparations.
· Operates a variety of machinery including driving a large pickup truck, utility trailer, tractor, riding mower, line trimmer, leaf blower, field paint liners, chalk machines, landscaping tools and miscellaneous hand tools.
· Groom baseball/softball infields (controlling weeds and keeping ground level)
· Apply herbicide to control weeds on ball fields as needed.
· Chalk infield lines and paint field lines for all WAA athletic field home games
· Maintain cleanliness of all athletic field sites (empty garbage cans, de-litter grounds, etc.).
· Perform miscellaneous landscaping tasks at WAA facilities.
· Follow WAA safety guidelines, personnel, administrative policies and procedures.
· Assist w/ various WAA programs or special events.
· Performs other miscellaneous job-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Possess and maintain a Valid Driver’s License w/ an acceptable driving record.
· Be responsible, reliable and timely reporting to work (leading a crew when required).
· Be able to work flexible hours including occasional overtime and weekends.
· Good communication skills.
· Ability to work with minimal supervision, recognize priorities, adjust plans accordingly and meet deadlines.
· Experience driving a pickup truck, utility trailer, tractor, riding mower and using a variety of power tools is preferred (training will be provided).
· Basic knowledge of athletic field maintenance, small hand tools and landscaping equipment is preferred.
· Ability to speak, read and write English.
· Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire
· Must have high school diploma or equivalent
· The WAA is an at-will employer as allowed by applicable state law
Physical and Environmental Demands:
· Ability to occasionally lift, carry or move up to 50 lbs.
· Regularly walk long distances lining fields (up to 6 miles on certain days)
· Regularly be on your feet and using your hands while performing maintenance tasks w/ intermittent kneeling, bending, twisting, lifting and sitting.
· Manual dexterity and strength to operate equipment and a variety of hand tools.
· Regularly work outside w/ exposure to sun, heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.
· Exposure to herbicide, paint, chalk, chemicals, dust, dirt, insects, etc.
Salary & Hours:
· $16 to $20 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications)
· Week days - 24 to 40 hours per week (March thru November)
Ø Approx. 40 hours per week (May thru Sept)
Ø Approx. 24 hours per week (March/April and October/November)
· Typical shift is 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (may vary slightly at times)
· Occasional weekend events and over-time opportunities
