What are the responsibilities and job description for the Real Estate Assistant position at Lodging Research LLC?
Lodging Research LLC is a small, well-established research company serving a prestigious group of clients involved in the ownership, development, design, franchising, and management of hotel and resort properties. We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join our team as a Development Research Associate.
Commercial real estate is a complex and interesting field. The candidate selected for this position will receive initial and ongoing training in multiple facets of the real development process, allowing for mastery of the Research Associate position and growth to higher levels of employment within the company. The successful candidate will play an important role within our small research team and make a significant contribution to the research products provided to our clients.
Position Responsibilities
The Research Associate will become an expert in the following areas:
- Identifying new hotel and resort development projects and determining the entitlement and permitting status of those projects;
- Identifying the ownership of development sites;
- Determining the relationship between legal ownership entities and known development companies.
To accomplish this work, the Associate will draw upon various sources, including:
- City council and planning commission hearing agendas, staff reports, and minutes;
- County assessor records;
- Deed, lease, and mortgage documents;
- City or county project and permit tracking systems;
- Proprietary internal databases.
The position requires a candidate with sharp analytical skills, the ability to learn and master multiple content management systems, and the ability to draw upon multiple sources of information to reach reliable conclusions about the location and status of new projects.
Long-term success and satisfaction in this position are determined not by a specific professional or educational background, but by natural curiosity, critical thinking ability, and a dedication to accuracy. Those who thrive on the discovery of new information and are adept at solving complex problems will find satisfaction in the work of a Development Researcher.
Often, the work of a Development Research Associate is like solving a mystery or assembling a puzzle. You begin with limited information, then set out to find other facts that help to make sense of the mystery or make the puzzle more complete. Because of the unique nature of this work, the position is open to all who can demonstrate certain key traits regardless of educational background.
Education Requirements
We value curiosity and critical thinking, not credentials. If earning a college degree helped you to think clearly and reason well, you might be a good fit for this position. But not all critical thinkers went to college, and not all college graduates are critical thinkers. For that reason, we will consider any candidate with at least a high school degree and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Experience
Those with experience in the following fields or holding the following certifications will be favorably considered for this position.
- Title research
- Loan processing
- Real estate development, entitlement, planning, or permitting
- Real estate assessment and appraisal
- Real estate law (real estate paralegal experience)
- Paralegal Certificate
- International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician Certification
- GIS mapping
Work Location
This is an on-site position with the opportunity for future remote work. The on-site location is a dedicated office space on the ground floor of a private residence. After a minimum of 24 months of employment, the ability to work remotely will be considered subject to excellent job performance and a conducive remote work environment.
Benefits Include
- Paid holidays
- Paid time off
- Flexible health spending account
Application Requirements
All applicants are required to complete two assessments designed to help us evaluate the abilities of each candidate in a fair and objective way. The assessments take a total of 25 minutes and can be completed online at the candidate’s convenience.
