Job Description:

Longwood University invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball (GA125) in Athletics. The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing, recruiting, and/or educating student athletes in the sport of basketball and the responsibilities of serving as an ambassador for Longwood University. This includes informing student athletes of their role as a Longwood Citizen Leader, as well as the necessary rules and regulations to compete within the University, NCAA, and Big South Conference.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Scouting, talent assessment and recruiting
  • Coaching knowledge and techniques
  • Administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach
  • NCAA and Big South rules compliance
  • Community and University involvement
  • Fiscal Responsibility and Film Exchange
  • Participate in sports camps and clinics with approval from the Head Coach
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to provide training, direction, encouragement and motivation to prepare student-athletes in: team building; academic success; team strategy and planning; and sportsmanship
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify potential problems and possible solutions, form conclusions and approaches to problems, as well as developmental needs of others through coaching, mentoring or otherwise helping individuals improve their knowledge or skills; must possess and be able to demonstrate effective leadership and communication skills
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree with equivalent training and work experience
  • Extensive amount of coaching at the Division I level
  • Previous experience as a NCAA Division I college basketball player is preferred
  • A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Must be able to perform physical activities associated with the sport of basketball
  • Must be willing to meet University eligibility to drive state fleet vehicles, including vans or mini-buses


Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
