Southern Virginia University is seeking a full-time passionate and experienced Men’s Rugby Head Coach to lead and develop its men’s rugby program. The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the program, including recruiting, coaching, player development, and fostering a culture of excellence on and off the field. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to build a competitive and mission-aligned program.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for the men’s rugby program in alignment with the university’s mission and values.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop student-athletes to excel both athletically and academically.
- Organize and oversee team practices, training sessions, and game preparation.
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, integrity, and personal growth.
- Schedule and manage competitions, including travel logistics.
- Ensure compliance with all university, conference, and national governing body policies.
- Oversee and manage the program’s budget, equipment, and facilities.
- Cultivate relationships with alumni, donors, and the local rugby community to enhance program support.
- Assist student-athletes in their personal and academic development.
- Coordinate with athletic trainers and strength coaches to support player health and performance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Proven coaching experience in rugby, preferably at the collegiate level.
- Strong knowledge of rugby strategy, skill development, and game preparation.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop student-athletes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Southern Virginia University.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to carry, pull, push, and lift equipment necessary for training and competition.
- Must be able to stand for long periods and actively participate in practices and games.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,669.00 - $53,606.00 per year
