Requirements

We are looking for individuals who have:

Completed 12 semester or 18 quarter units of accounting, including a course in Advanced Accounting, Cost Accounting, Governmental Accounting, Auditing, or Accounting Information Systems in an accredited college or university.

AND

One year of accounting clerical experience

Graduation from an accredited two-year college with an Associate's degree in Accounting or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of accounting clerical experience.

NOTE: Lower-level accounting classes may be taken at a two-year community college if the units are transferable to a four-year college or university.

Applicants are required to submit a photocopy of their official transcripts with the application.

Accounting clerical experience is performing accounting clerical work to maintain accounting records within a comprehensive established framework of procedures under general supervision. Graduation from an accredited two-year college with an associate’s degree in accounting or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of accounting clerical experience.

"Closely related" refers to fields that focus on core accounting practices, including but not limited to Finance and Auditing. The field must also cover the principles and practices of accounting. For degrees that do not explicitly align with these fields, we will review and confirm whether the degree is closely related on a case-by-case basis. We may evaluate the school and its curriculum to determine whether the degree meets the necessary accounting-related criteria.

An official transcript is a transcript that bears the college seal and states "official and/or copy" issued by the school's Registrar's Office. A "printout" of the transcript from the institution's website is NOT considered official and, therefore, cannot be accepted, which could lead to your application being rejected.

What can you do if you do not attach the documents at the time of filing?

To receive credit for your education, include a copy of your official diploma, official transcript, or letter/certificate from an accredited institution within seven (7) days of the end of the filing period. The document should show the date the degree was conferred and be in English; if it is in a foreign language, it must be translated and evaluated for equivalency to U.S. standards. For more information on our standards for educational documents, please visit: https://file.lacounty.gov/SDSInter/dhr/070812_PPG123.pdf (Download PDF reader) and https://file.lacounty.gov/SDSInter/dhr/205105_PPG_123_ACE_Resource_Guide.pdf (Download PDF reader)

Please submit documentation to KMacaranas@hr.lacounty.gov and indicate your name, the exam name, and the exam number.

If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran’s credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email it to the exam analyst at KMacaranas@hr.lacounty.gov within seven (7) calendar days from the end of filing period.

We do not accept password-protected documents. Ensure documents are unlocked before attaching to your application or sending to the exam analyst.
