Job Description
Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) is seeking qualified applicants to establish a two-year eligibility list for regular, full-time, Assistant Dispatch Supervisors working 42 hours per week in the Emergency Communications Center. This recruitment is for LCFR employees only.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintains thorough knowledge of Division procedures, operations, and policies; reviews standard operating guidelines (SOGs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), General Orders, and the Training Manual; and participates in scheduled training to maintain the knowledge and skills associated with the job.
- Assists supervisor in completing daily logs; ensures that pertinent information has been received from previous shift; and passes on pertinent information to the relieving shift.
- Assists in overseeing, monitoring, and evaluating the daily activities and performance of assigned employees.
- Assists in supervising squad operations during complex incidents, assists with supervision and scheduling of personnel in the ECC; and communicates effectively with all personnel.
- Uses information and communication technology tools and resources in Department.
- May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.
This position is subject to working shift work that will include days, nights, weekends and holidays. Some workdays require extended shifts, to include the possibility of being subject-to-call when emergency incidents escalate to the point where additional staff would be beneficial. In addition to the advertised salary, there is a nighttime differential paid to employees working night shifts.
Hiring salary commensurate with experience.
Job Requirements
Any combination of education and experience to a High School diploma or equivalent; four (4) years of experience working in a public safety communications center; including two (2) years of experience at Public Safety Telecommunicator II or III level, with Loudoun County.
Required Certifications: APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator or equivalent, APCO Communications Training Officer, Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) NCIC Limited Access; Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD).
Special Requirements
A County of Loudoun Electronic Application, to include all Fire-Rescue experience, must be received by County Human Resources by 2359 hours on July 19, 2023. Applicants must also complete a LCFR Promotional Addendum (Electronic Laserfiche Form 019) by 2359 hours on July 19, 2023. Applicants must attach current, in-date copy of the required certifications for APCO Communications Training Officer. To receive preference points for college education, applicants must attach a copy of their degree to the Promotional Addendum.
SPECIAL NOTE: Promotional Addendums MUST be completed via the electronic submission format (Laserfiche). Failure to submit the Laserfiche Promotional Addendum Form 019 will result in disqualification in the process; the applicant will not be permitted to participate in testing. Addendums received in any other form will not be accepted or processed in any fashion.

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies
The selection process will include review of application and Promotional Addendum; written multiple-choice examination; assessment center; verification of certifications and experience; and a full review of personnel file. May include successfully completing a criminal, fingerprinting, and DMV background investigation prior to employment.
A non-compensated, non-mandatory virtual orientation session will be provided at a later date that addresses the multiple-choice test and assessment center. Applicants must submit a completed resume to LCFR-HR@Loudoun.gov by 2359 hours on August 11, 2023. A template for the resume will be provided following the closure of this ad.
The written examination will consist of a 75-question multiple-choice test, which will be administered between August 14-15, 2023. Appeals sessions for the multiple-choice test will be held on a rolling basis at the completion of the allotted testing time. Additional information regarding appeals will be disseminated at the multiple-choice test. Candidates will participate in the Assessment Center, which will also be held August 14-15, 2023; assignment of test date for each candidate will be made by LCFR Human Resources based on Departmental need. The Assessment Center will consist of a role-play exercise and a structured panel interview. Additional details regarding the assessment center will be provided to eligible candidates.
