LMU’s Loyola Law School, Los Angeles invites applications for the position of Director of its Entertainment and Media Law Institute (“the Entertainment Program”) and Associate Clinical Professor of Law.

The Director will provide strategic leadership to Loyola’s nationally-recognized Entertainment Program. Loyola is a proven training ground for entertainment and media lawyers. The Hollywood Reporter has regularly named Loyola’s Entertainment Program one of “America’s Top 10 Entertainment Law Schools.” The ranking considered the depth of Loyola’s offerings, the strength and innovation of its practical training, and the strategic positions its alumni hold in a competitive market. Loyola’s graduates are executives in business affairs and the legal departments of major studios, networks, and entities offering content on all technology platforms. They are also leaders in law firm entertainment and IP law practices, and general managers and general counsel of major sports franchises. Loyola seeks a Director eager to steward the varied aspects of Loyola’s program while also providing insight and leadership for new programming and opportunities.

This academic and administrative position includes the following responsibilities :

Teaching :

  • Teach six units of courses each academic year, which may include Entertainment Law, the Entertainment Law Practicum, or other courses mutually agreed upon by you and the Associate Dean for Faculty;
  • Serve as the faculty advisor for the Entertainment & Media Law Concentration, including –Coordinate with LLS faculty, both full-time and adjunct, who teach courses in entertainment law, media and technology law, and intellectual property subjects to ensure LLS offerings reflect the training graduates need to be successful in the practice of entertainment and media law;Assist the Associate Dean for Faculty with recruiting and mentoring experienced lawyers to teach courses as adjunct faculty.

Strategic Community Engagement :

  • Plan events, including symposia, conferences, and speaker presentations, to maintain and strategically increase Loyola’s strong ties with the industry;
  • Partner with LLS marketing and communications team to plan communications to the broader community that promote the Program and LLS, its students, and its graduates, including through the Loyola Entertainment Alumni Network;
  • Build partnerships across the university with other schools and programs, particularly the LMU School of Film and Television in Playa Vista and the LMU College of Business Administration;
  • Represent Loyola within the entertainment industry in its traditional and newer expressions, including streaming platforms, social media, and video gaming.
  • Student Engagement and Mentoring :

  • Engage and advise students (both current and prospective) regarding opportunities available through the Program., Direct the Loyola Entertainment Fellows Program;
  • Assist students seeking experiences in law school to prepare for practice;
  • Serve as faculty advisor or co-advisor to the Loyola Entertainment Law Review;
  • Assist students participating in co-curricular opportunities focused on Entertainment, and media law , including student organizations, moot court, writing competitions, and participation with local bar associations.
  • Requisite Qualifications :

    Applicants are expected to have a distinguished academic background, including a J.D. from an accredited law school. Applicants should have experience practicing entertainment, media law, or sports law at a sophisticated level for at least six years and preferably eight to ten years. The candidate should be comfortable mentoring and advising students and engaging with alumni who practice both domestically and internationally. Extensive experience in supervising and managing junior attorneys is an important aspect of an outstanding candidate’s background, as is a demonstrated ability to offer professional development guidance. Applicants with prior teaching experience are preferred. Given the administrative responsibilities associated with the position, meaningful administrative or managerial experience is also preferred.

    The candidate's salary for this position will be determined based on a range of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s education, training, and experience. Salary is one component of LMU’s total compensation and comprehensive benefits package.

    Reasonable expected salary range : $125,000 to $148,000.

    Hiring salary will be commensurate with applicable knowledge, skills, and experience.
