Reporting to the President of Lubrizol Advanced Materials (LZAM), the Vice President of LZAM Technology is the head of the Global Technology function for the business segment and has responsibility and accountability for technology teams across 5 global business units. The role is accountable for ensuring current and future LZAM technology capabilities are in place or built, the segment’s technology budget, stage gate processes, alignment of technical projects with the business strategy, achievement of productivity targets, speed to commercialization and technology-based innovation. The VP will directly and indirectly lead teams in North America, Europe, IMEA, LATAM and APAC, making sure the business needs are met and global platforms are executed effectively and without replication of efforts and resources. The role will also have dotted line reporting into the CTO of Lubrizol and be a member of the extended Lubrizol Technology Leadership team helping to drive alignment in technology development across the corporation.
This role will be based at our Lubrizol Advanced Materials headquarters in Brecksville, OH.

Key Priorities:
  • Provides strategic direction for global technology organization and ensures high growth regions and key business initiatives are appropriately resourced to win in the futur
  • Responsible for budgeting, productivity, and efficiency of the technology function. Develops annual and multiyear technical and capital budgets and staffing plans.
  • Leads, manages, and coaches global R&D teams – creates a vision, sets goals, and defines a strategy for achieving established goals and continuously improves the team’s talent position. Ensures engagement and alignment of both direct and indirect reports.
  • Fosters good communication, teamwork, and strategic alignment while instilling a culture of urgency and accountability for financial results. Develops strong succession pipelines for technology leadership and key impact roles.
  • Keeps up to date on key market and macro trends - leverages emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices (AI, digitalization etc.) to create a best-in-class technology organization.
  • In conjunction with the CTO organization, designs and implements a stage gate process that ensures projects and platforms are prioritized based on alignment to the strategy and highest return.
  • In conjunction with the CTO organization, assesses the global lab footprint and broad technology resources for network optimization, resource allocation and optimization across businesses.
  • Identifies technical needs and solutions through customer and technical professional interfaces and aligns strategic technology priorities with commercial needs and R&D.
  • Ensures alignment with key business stakeholders on all technical initiatives.
  • Operates as a Lubrizol ambassador by participating in key external activities to promote the company as a global technology leader.
  • Sets and delivers productivity improvement goals and continually assesses non-value adding activities to reallocate resources to the highest value opportunities.
  • Drives operational excellence and a customer-driven mindset to deliver on aggressive growth goals. Ensures the stage gate process is leveraged.
  • Establishes strong relationships with industry experts and customers, proactively supporting the commercial team in identifying new opportunities and expanding our value proposition and market influence.
  • Identifies and establishes training needs for the technical and commercial community.
  • Drives change and challenges the status quo; fosters accountability, prioritization, and agility.
  • Ensures the laboratories are safe and compliant with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and/or Engineering related discipline; PhD preferred
  • 15 years of prior experience in specialty chemicals technology
  • Experience leading a large, global technology team
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage process improvement methodologies to drive business results (formal certification considered a plus)
  • Extensive working knowledge of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices (AI, digitalization etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results through influence, teamwork, agility and working inclusively and collaboratively.
  • Comfortable working in a complex organization and matrixed structure; ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Requires international and domestic travel up to 40% of the time.
  • Prior experience leading transformation that meaningfully impacts organizational financial performance.
