Job Title: Senior Scrum Master
Purpose:
Leads multiple cross-functional teams or Agile Release Trains (ARTs), guiding them on using Agile, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Scrum, and Lean (e.g., Kanban) values and practices through servant leadership. Creates and nurtures a culture of continuous learning, growth mindset, and Agile maturity in teams/ARTs through Agile practices, metrics, and SAFe guidelines. Removes blockers and collaborates with leadership to foster a Lean-Agile mindset.
Essential Functions
<>Facilitates Progress Toward Team/ART Goals (40%)- Acts as a facilitator for multiple teams or as the Release Train Engineer (RTE) for a SAFe Agile Release Train (ART).
- Continuously challenges existing workflows to improve performance in quality, predictability, flow, and velocity, aligning with enterprise metrics.
- Guides the team/ART in achieving daily and Iteration Goals within the Program Increment (PI) or Release Objectives.
- Leads and facilitates key ceremonies, including Daily Stand-ups, Iteration Planning, Iteration Reviews, Retrospectives, PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, and PI Retrospectives.
- Ensures adherence to the Definition of Done (DoD) and other working agreements.
- Facilitates decision-making, conflict resolution, and relentless improvement at the team/ART level.
- Leads coordination efforts with other teams to improve workflow and throughput.
- Represents teams in Scrum of Scrums (SoS) and other program-level ceremonies to plan, execute, and enhance work models.
- Promotes collaboration with supporting teams like User Experience, Architecture, and Shared Services.
- Assists Product Owners and Product Management in backlog management, prioritization, and scope guidance while fostering a healthy team dynamic.
- Engages stakeholders to address and eliminate impediments to achieving Iteration or PI objectives.
- Improves transparency through effective communication internally and externally.
- Models and nurtures Lean-Agile behaviors and culture.
- Leads initiatives to enhance business agility within teams, programs, and enterprises.
- Drives cultural changes needed to improve agility across teams and ARTs.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field.
- In lieu of a degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required.
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of experience with Lean and Agile methodologies, including 3 years as a Scrum Master or Kanban Lead.
- Proven success in leading multiple Agile teams to maturity and delivering improved customer outcomes.
Preferred Experience:
- Serving as a Scrum Master on a SAFe Agile Release Train.
- Leading change and driving continuous improvement using Lean-Agile methods.
- Experience with value stream mapping, system-level optimization, and applying Lean techniques.
- Healthcare industry experience with a strong focus on the data side.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Advanced knowledge of Lean-Agile values, principles, and practices.
- Expertise in Lean-Agile frameworks like Scrum and Kanban.
- Advanced understanding of scaling frameworks like SAFe.
- Proven accountability for program success.
- Advanced knowledge of Product Ownership, DevOps, and Test Automation practices.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in organizing data, creating metrics, reports, and dashboards.
- Expertise in using Microsoft Office programs and industry-standard Agile tools.
- Strong conflict resolution and change management skills.
Licenses/Certifications
- Required: Certified Scrum Master (CSP).
- Preferred:
- SAFe Scrum Master Certification.
- Certified SAFe Release Train Engineer.
- Certified Scrum Professional.
