The Director of Engineering-VAL Integration is responsible for integrating technological systems and programs to ensure they work together seamlessly for the launch of Factory 2. They will be responsible for overseeing the entire process from planning and configuration to installation and also provide post-installation support and troubleshooting. They will play an active role in strategic planning to ensure optimal system integration that meets organization needs
Position Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of new glass fabrication process from design through hand off to operations team.
- Lead and mentor a team of 4-6 engineers.
- Manage the project to ensure it is on schedule and budget.
- Specify, design, install and conduct FAT/SAT for new equipment builds.
- Take a wholistic view of the entire line, ensuring that all tools work together to produce a product that meets all design criteria, considering manufacturing tolerances at each process step and tool.
- Collaborate with the cross functional team and supply chain to issue necessary purchase orders for manufacturing tools, software, and services.
- Execute a process FMEA for the line to ensure the system is properly designed to overcome operational issues, product failures and sources of unscheduled downtime.
- Track issues and risks, communicate status and escalate concerns to management.
- Create models and simulations to optimize production line design and eliminate bottlenecks to achieve target throughput, yield and quality.
- Collaborate with the Director of Automation to ensure that all PLC and MES systems are designed to support the production and business goals of the line.
- Develop in-situ and off-line metrology design and implementation strategy in collaboration with R&D, manufacturing and test and validation groups.
- Collaborate with equipment and tool suppliers and integrators to ensure equipment meets performance and cost requirements.
- Ensure all equipment has accurate and thorough drawings and operating manuals.
- Ensure that all equipment and tools are installed in a safe manner and have appropriate engineering controls, where applicable, to ensure safe operation.
- Ensure that all tools have the appropriate spare parts, taking into account lead times, cost and MTBF/MTTR.
- Facilitate troubleshooting and communication with other internal team members.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with new equipment design, builds, installation and debugging.
- Experience in MES and ERP software, such as Ignition and SAP
- Strong ability to develop team and individual priorities that align with business goals and ensure that priorities are completed timely.
- Understanding of PLC programming and communication
- Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and workflow in a high-volume, highly automated operation
- Glass fabrication experience, including cutting, grinding and tempering is highly preferred
- Experience writing and editing detailed equipment specifications
- Experience with data acquisition and analysis from production equipment
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams
- Proficient in Microsoft Project.
