POSITION SUMMARY |
The Human Resources Generalist will execute the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department as it relates to assigned buildings/departments. This position is the first point of contact for the buildings/departments that they support: including, but not limited to, confirming recommended candidates meet minimum requirements for positions, establishing a starting salary, extending offers and processing the candidate record through the onboarding process as well as establishing employee records in payroll software; creating and deploying agreements/contracts as appropriate and enforcing company policies and practices. The HR Generalist will assist with answering fundamental HR questions from employees, administrators and Central Office personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |
- Creates and maintains accurate job postings for openings associated with the buildings/departments assigned, and maintains accurate information regarding staffing vacancies.
- Responsible for accurate data entry and maintenance of data housed in the various electronic systems utilized by the HR Department (ie: Applicant Tracking System, PowerSchool Records, LINQ, Frontline, etc), as appropriate
- Recruits, interviews (as appropriate), and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers/building administrators to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Participates in university/college/LCS career fairs as assigned.
- Initiates/facilitates or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
- Coordinates, facilitates, and delivers new hire orientation.
- Participates in HR-initiated employee appreciation and recognition programs (ie, Teacher of the Year, Staff Appreciation, etc)
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, including but not limited to compensation, talent management, productivity, recognition, morale, occupational health and safety, and training and development.
- Handles generic employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Serves as the liaison and LCS resource for university licensure certification and add-on endorsement programs for their designated buildings/departments.
- Responds to daily communication with staff and public, in order to evaluate and advise on issues or requirements as they pertain to licensure or renewals.
- Escalates concerns of complaints, disciplinary issues, etc, to CHRO as they become aware.
- Serves as the coordinator of licensure information and directives for their assigned buildings/departments.
- Monitors and stays current with changing licensure requirements for all instructional personnel.
- Assists with special projects and department initiatives.
- Maintains confidentiality and exercises wisdom/judgment regarding personal/private information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Prefer candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Human Resources.
- Minimum one-year Human resource experience, preferably in the public or private sector including but not limited to experience in public administration, business administration, finance or school administration. Degree in HR or HR certification may be substituted for experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of school district structure, human resources, and operation preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, Word, and HRIS.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and satisfactory attendance records.

- Solid knowledge and understanding of accurate and effective record keeping and time management.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office and Google Drive and ability to learn new technical programs/practices as needed.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of equitable practices that create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for LCS staff, students, and community members.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY |
- The Human Resources Generalist does not supervise any other personnel.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS |
- Reliable transportation, necessary
- Minimal travel within the City of Lynchburg as needed
