Job Summary
The HR Generalist will work on a team of other Human Resources Generalists as a shared effort to provide the needs of the University as they relate to employment here at MIU. Each Generalist within the team is assigned a group of supervisors and departments for which they will manage the relations, facilitate the employee's hiring process from start to finish as well as their wholistic employment needs throughout their tenure.
Job Responsibilities
1. RECRUITMENT
- Work with assigned supervisors to understand the need for job requests.
- Initiate recruiting activities such as posting job ads and creating job advertisements for effective candidate outreach.
- Work inside the HRIS to track job requisitions and applications, screen applicants, identify qualified candidates, and facilitate a workflow for scheduling interviews while overseeing the preparation of customizable interview scripts and hiring materials.
- Facilitate the relationship with potential employees by conducting interviews, and assisting managers, directors, and stakeholders throughout the interview process to ensure alignment and thorough evaluation of candidates.
- Collaborate with hiring managers during the offer process, start dates, and building cross-functional relationships while participating in college job fairs and recruiting events.
2. FACILITATE THE EMPLOYEE LIFE CYCLE
Assist employees within assigned departments with employment related processes, such as hiring, onboarding, orientation, training, performance management, and termination.Facilitate entire hiring process for selected candidates within assigned departments, with tasks such as such as initiating and adjudicating background screening, reference checks, and E-Verify.Update employee information within HRIS, the MIU Employee Directory, and Microsoft Office (partnering with IT)Initiate cross-departmental communication regarding personnel information and status as needed.Work alongside managers and the HR Training and Development Specialist to assist Performance Management and Training and Development needs by assigning and tracking the determined necessary training, and reviews within HRIS.Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.3. EMPLOYEE BENEFITS FACILITATION
Assist with the open enrollment process and other benefits related programs as needed within the assigned departments, ensuring the accuracy of all benefits in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.Provide customer service for all benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes, and other general questions, including discussing benefit options with new employees, registration, plan changes, and contribution amounts. This includes tuition reimbursement, MSAE tuition for staff, meals, housing, bookstore gift cards, and other related benefits.Working with the Sr. HR Generalist for Vendor Facilitation, assist employees regarding benefits claims' issues and plan changes with carriers and process life status changes, as well as effectively interpret FMLA and ADA implications related to leaves of absence / disabilities and process and administer all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork : medical, personal, disability, and FMLA.Support the safety effort by working with the Campus Safety and HR Directors to resolve overlapping issues such as ADA and Risk Management processes and procedures.Perform quality checks of benefits-related data to ensure up-to-date records of each employee's benefits profile.4. MANAGEMENT OF HR INFORMATION SYSTEM AND PERSONNEL DATA
Facilitate resolutions to employee time and attendance errors and serve as a liaison between the supervisor and payroll.Engage in quality control measures to ensure proper data entry in the HR system by gathering information and contributing to the compilation of reports and metrics while assisting with reconciling reports, research, and resolving data discrepancies.Manage employee records and perform file audits to ensure all required employee documentation is collected and maintained, ensuring accuracy and adherence to appropriate confidentiality procedures and standards.Ensure area compliance with all Federal and State labor laws / regulations, university policies, guidelines, processes, and HR system protocols.5. HR CUSTOMER SERVICE
Provide professional customer service to a broad range of university employees, including acting as a point of contact for all new employee questions.Support walk-in customers to the HR Office, answer customer calls and emails in HR general inboxesRespond to Tickets within HR Ticket Support within 2 business days for initial response.Contribute to team initiatives for documenting and improving processes, and collaborate with the team to improve data accuracy and reduce entry errors.6. FACILITATE GROUP HIRING / EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS
Facilitate the administration of the Computer Science MIU work-related processes for International Students.Coordinate and own the student employment programs, such as Federal Work-Study and Class Break Room and Board program.Maintain organization and tracking for the data associated with the programs mentioned above.Matrix level Information

The Sr. Generalist holds the role as point of contact for HR Vendors and is responsible for all aspects of vendor relations, working alongside the HR VP.
Demonstrates proficient and comprehensive knowledge and skills in HR Administration. Applies knowledge of Employment Law, Benefits Administration, and Complex HR Processes while working independently under minimal supervision.
