JOB SUMMARY :

The Finance Director is a dynamic position responsible for leading the accounting functions and the transactional processes related to all funding sources and provides financial insights to guide key business decisions. This position maintains the financial integrity of MAHEC by ensuring the accurate and timely financial reporting which includes oversight and maintenance of MAHEC's accounting system. Through financial reporting, oversight, and guidance, this position will ensure that all MAHEC initiatives are supported in meeting the organizations strategic plan. This position will require collegiality with all participating internal and external partners.

The Finance Director provides leadership and technical guidance to the Finance team and will establish and maintain policies and procedures that are required for effective communication within the Finance team and other MAHEC departments. This position is directly tied to MAHEC's mission to serve Western North Carolina by providing the highest level of continuously improving quality medical care, health education and preventive services possible.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in the United States of America.
  • Assist the CFO in the preparation of the organizational budget. Including budget planning and development leading to the formulation of the organizations operating budget; evaluate capital and grant budget proposals, analyze performance compared to budget, and formulate the basis for the development of alternative scenarios of the future prospects of both income and expense.
  • Lead the development of the budget processes and specifications for all projects in accordance with funding source requirements.
  • Analyzes financial statement activity for profit and loss statement and balance sheet at the departmental level for the purpose of providing direction and support, making recommendations, maximizing use of funds, and / or ensuring overall operations are within budget.
  • Maintains an accurate system of record related to all transactions.
  • Maintain a system of employee costing allocation by funding source.
  • Maintains a record keeping system related to financial information, supporting documentation, and records that support transactions in the accounting system and third party audit requests.
  • Participate on ad hoc committees to support organizational decision making.
  • Develop proformas for new programs.
  • Establishes and maintains a system of internal controls to mitigate the risk of material misstatement of the financial statement and the misappropriation of assets.
  • Meets regularly with CEO, COO and CFO of MAHEC and provides financial support on organizational decision making.
  • Ensuring MAHEC adheres to all relevant tax laws and regulations.
  • Leads preparation of the annual 990.
  • Leads external audit process for any external audit.
  • Prepare Finance Committee package on the predetermined committee meeting schedule.
  • Leads and develops a high-performing finance team, including mentoring and coaching team members.

This also includes keeping up with your licensure and yearly training requirements within your area expertise along with MAHEC's organizational training. Finally, the ability to apply the depth of knowledge maintained and gained through this process in real life scenarios as appropriate.

    SPECIFIED SKILLS

  • COMPUTER
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications required. Workday experience is an added value.

  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE
  • Spanish speaking skills preferred.

  • Supervises Finance team members.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Extensive experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.

  • SCHEDULE :

    Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and / or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.
