Job Overview:
The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in managing financial operations across multiple entities within the company. This role involves overseeing accounting staff, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and driving process improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial statements and monthly/quarterly/annual reports for multiple entities.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Supervise the accounting department, including hiring, training, retaining, and evaluating accounting staff.
- Prepare reports for the Controller and upper management.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and addressing inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other applicable accounting standards.
- Communicate relevant financial information to the Controller.
- Analyze financial data and make recommendations to resolve discrepancies.
- Assist in system implementations, upgrades, or integrations related to accounting and finance.
- Serve as a backup for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and other accounting functions when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly skilled in math, accounting and financial processes.
Education & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Five or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- CPA and/or CMA certification is preferred but not required
- Management experience preferred
- Experience with ERP systems; Epicor experience a plus.
- Experience using QuickBooks.
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and data analysis.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Able to perform regular bending, twisting, and lifting to shelves.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
