Campus Safety Overview
The Campus Safety Officer II plays a critical role in maintaining a secure environment for the students, employees, and visitors of the Maine Maritime Academy. The primary responsibility is to patrol and monitor the campus to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals. This includes verifying that all facilities are properly secured and working closely with Student Services to enforce Academy rules.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Patrol the campus by foot and vehicle to identify potential safety hazards and security concerns
* Respond promptly and professionally to customer requests for assistance with student-related issues, parking questions, or emergency situations
* Work with the campus community to promote safe work practices and maintain required records according to campus policies and regulatory requirements
* Provide emergency response support during working hours and from time to time off-work hours
* Supervise temporary and/or student workers as needed
Skills and Qualifications
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety documents, SOPs, and manuals
* Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment and maintain composure in stressful situations
* Detail-oriented with effective communication skills to interact with students, employees, residents, and state/local agencies
* Must be able to accurately document facts as reported and/or witnessed
Physical Demands and Environment
* Requires physical exertion standing, walking, running, and climbing up to four flights of stairs
* Uses hands and arms to reach, lift, and/or carry items on occasion
* Ability to walk across campus, up and down hills, and onboard ship(s)
* Position occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds
* Frequent hearing and listening skills required for campus life safety and security assessments
