Job Description

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is seeking Residential Advisors to be part of the 2025 UMF Summer Upward Bound (UB) Program . This is an exciting opportunity to engage with high school students in innovative and creative ways. Residential Advisors provide direct support to Upward Bound participants, living in the residence hall. Advisors also plan and facilitate daily activities for students and participate in all aspects of the summer program, including overnight supervision.

Compensation : This is a full-time, seasonal position with a pay rate of $14.65 per hour. A typical work schedule is Sunday night through Friday afternoon. This position is grant-funded and contingent upon the continued availability of external funding.

Summer program dates : June 17, 2025, through July 25, 2025. Residential Advisors are required to commit to a minimum of six (6) weeks, with the possibility of an additional week.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Plans and facilitates daily activities for students in areas of academic, career, and health, wellness, and personal development.
  • Delivers Upward Bound Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum via Advisor Group facilitation on a weekly basis.
  • Plans and delivers daily wellness activities to students.
  • Tutors / assists students individually and in small groups during nightly study sessions, as well as Common Time.
  • Writes comprehensive evaluations of assigned students.
  • Supervise and provide support during evening study sessions.
  • Coordinates student transportation to and from career sites.
  • Supervises bedtime hours and sleep in the dorm except on weekends and nights off.
  • Encourages and guides students' intellectual and personal growth.
  • Provides students companionship, support, and positive role modeling.
  • Participates in staff meetings to discuss program progress, planning, and student concerns.

Required Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of college experience
  • Expertise in one of the following areas : residential life, career development, or college transitions, academic excellence in program of study.
  • Experience working with high school students
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Personal experience with, or understanding of, the challenges faced by low-income students who will be the first in their families to attend college
