We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Support Specialist to facilitate group sessions and provide peer support for individuals participating in our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). This role involves using lived experience and empathy to support participants in their recovery journey, while fostering a safe and supportive group environment.
The Peer Support Specialist will work closely with the clinical team, facilitating discussions, sharing personal experiences, and offering guidance to individuals navigating mental health and substance use challenges. This role is integral to creating a recovery-focused atmosphere where participants feel empowered to share and learn from one another.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate Group Sessions: Lead peer support groups, focusing on emotional support, skill-building, and education on recovery topics (e.g., coping strategies, self-care, relapse prevention).
- Provide Lived Experience: Share personal recovery experiences in a manner that fosters hope, connection, and motivation for participants.
- Foster a Safe and Respectful Environment: Create an atmosphere where individuals feel comfortable and supported in sharing their experiences, struggles, and progress.
- Collaborate with Clinical Team: Work in partnership with therapists, counselors, and medical professionals to ensure that groups align with the program’s treatment goals and objectives.
- Offer Peer Support: Provide one-on-one or small group peer support as needed, offering encouragement, guidance, and advice based on lived experience.
- Assist with Program Development: Help develop and modify group content, focusing on relevant topics and needs of the group participants.
- Track Participant Progress: Monitor and document participant engagement and progress within the program, including attending group sessions and utilizing coping skills.
- Maintain Confidentiality: Uphold strict confidentiality in line with HIPAA and other relevant standards to protect the privacy of all participants.
- Crisis Management: Recognize signs of crisis situations and collaborate with the clinical team to provide appropriate interventions or referrals.
Qualifications:
- Lived Experience: Must have personal experience with mental health or substance use challenges and demonstrate a sustained period of recovery.
- Peer Support Certification: Certified Peer Support Worker in New Mexico Required.
- Group Facilitation Skills: Experience leading or facilitating groups is a plus, though training will be provided.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively with participants and team members, both in written and verbal forms.
- Empathy and Compassion: Ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and provide non-judgmental support.
- Team-Oriented: Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining a peer-to-peer rapport with participants.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage group schedules, participant records, and related documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in behavioral health, addiction recovery, or mental health treatment settings.
- Knowledge of recovery-based models and therapeutic techniques.

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
