What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping & Receiving Clerk position at Malin Space Science Systems?
Malin Space Science Systems (MSSS) is a private technology company that designs, develops and operates space camera systems for government and commercial aerospace customers and provides services in spacecraft instrument operations and space science research. As a member of our multidisciplinary space imaging systems design team, the Shipping / Receiving Clerk is responsible for receiving and verifying shipments, preparing outgoing shipments, and maintaining inventory.
Essential Functions
- Maintains strict material handling practices in accordance with best practices and procedures in an ESD environment.
- Receives and verifies shipments, checks the contents of incoming shipments against records like invoices, manifests, packing lists or order to ensure accuracy.
- Reports any damaged stock or equipment to supervisor.
- Prepares outgoing shipments, such as packaging, scheduling pick-ups, and assembling ship order documents.
- Maintains inventory to ensure easy retrieval and keeps track all materials, stock, and equipment.
- Assists with warehouse closeout upon project completion.
- Utilizes and updates ERP system as requested.
- Supports shipping of critical flight hardware to vendors and customers.
- Provides clerical support for maintaining records of ingoing and outgoing inventory in the database.
- Ensure the disposal of leftover packing material or hazardous waste while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Travels to shipping posts to deliver or pick up packages.
- Supports engineering and production activities, as requested.
- Prior to entering assembly, test, storage or development areas within the Camera Systems Group unescorted, receive initial and ongoing annual training in the fundamentals of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD).

Physical Requirements
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks assembling, inspecting and placing parts. Must be able to communicate clearly with a variety of people on a daily basis. Moves about the office to access office machinery, lab spaces, the machine shop and inventory room. Ability to work and move around in a cleanroom environment, wearing required outer garments including smock / coveralls, shoe covers, mask, hood and gloves. Ability to use small tools and lab equipment. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 - 50 lbs. Ability to practice safe driving habits while following all state safety regulations and standards. Possess mental acuity at a level which will facilitate execution of technical instructions. Ability to handle high stress levels in connection with multiple conflicting priorities and deadlines.
