Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant

Become a member of our Commercial Lines Underwriting team as an Underwriting Assistant. This is an ideal role for someone looking to start a career in underwriting. Apply critical thinking and analytical skills while gaining industry knowledge. This role combines working independently and directly with Underwriters.

Responsibilities:

• Review risks and approve transactions within a formal letter of authority for multiple lines of business including, but not limited to commercial auto, garage, and businessowners.
• Assist underwriters by screening incoming requests and by obtaining required information for review.
• Perform research on assigned risks as required.
• Screen completed inspections, approve inspections within authority, and assist in handling recommendations.
• Responsible for working towards sustainable growth and adequate retention.
• Communicate with agents as necessary and maintain positive relationships.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned by manager or team lead.
  
  
  

Qualifications:

• Associates Degree or Technical or specialized knowledge or equivalent, related experience OR 1 - 3 years or High School equivalent plus 3 - 5 years.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office products and internet navigation.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills. Some mathematical skills required
• Ability to learn quickly, prioritize work, and perform job functions within defined time constraints.
• Ability to exercise judgment and negotiate in routine business situations.
• Familiarity with commercial lines products, coverages, and terms is a plus
• Pursuit of an insurance designation is preferred.
