IBMi Engineer

We are seeking a skilled IBMi Engineer to join our team in managing small, medium, and large enterprise IBM i platforms and associated systems.

MAPSYS is a 40 Year old IBM Platinum Business Partner, specializing in providing IT Services, Support, and Solutions to our Customers across the United States. Our Infrastructure Optimization Solutions include Design, Configuration, Installation, Support, Migration and Managed Services for both On Prem and Cloud environments.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of IBM i management, with a focus on all of the components listed above, as well as systems best practices, security and reliability. Experience with external IBM storage solutions is highly preferred, as is proficiency in managing and maintaining an IBM i DR environment, either On Prem or in the Cloud.

Responsibilities:

• Administer and maintain the IBM i platform, ensuring its security, stability, and performance.
• Manage all aspects of IBM i security, including user access controls, authentication, and auditing.
• Understand the configuration of external IBM storage solutions for efficient data management and storage.
• Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate IBM i systems with existing infrastructure and applications.
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise, implementing solutions to minimize downtime and maximize uptime.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations, particularly regarding data security and privacy.
• Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and other IT staff as needed.
• Document procedures, configurations, and best practices for IBM i administration and maintenance.
• Stay current with advancements in IBM i technology and best practices, continuously seeking opportunities to improve system performance and efficiency.
• Participate in on-call rotation schedules for after-hours support and maintenance activities.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as an IBMi Engineeri or Administrator or similar role, with a focus on IBM i platform management.
• Strong understanding of IBM i security principles and best practices.
• Experience with external IBM storage solutions is a plus, but not required.
• Familiarity with Full System FlashCopy is required.
• PowerHA or System Replication is highly preferred.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field preferred.
• Relevant IBM certifications (e.g., IBM Certified System Administrator - IBM i) are advantageous.

This role is a Hybrid Remote position, requiring travel as needed to Client sites. Most support can be done remotely, via VPN.
