What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Network Administrator position at Mar-Bal?
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Infrastructure Management & Support:
- Manage daily operations of local (LAN), wide-area (WAN), and wireless (Wi-Fi) networks.
- Monitor and maintain all networking hardware: firewalls, switches, routers, wireless access points, etc.
- Ensure high availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery planning for network systems.
- Manage connectivity and access for remote users, VPN solutions, and mobile devices.
- Maintain and upgrade network documentation, diagrams, and user-facing work instructions.
- Cybersecurity & Data Protection:
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity tools including firewalls, endpoint protection, anti-virus/anti-spam, and threat detection systems.
- Enforce network security policies and perform regular audits of system and user access.
- Perform daily data backups and regular test restores to ensure disaster recovery readiness.
- Stay up to date on cybersecurity trends and compliance requirements (NIST, CMMC, etc.).
- Systems Administration & Support:
- Manage and support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policies.
- Administer Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Teams, and other cloud-based collaboration tools.
- Oversee and maintain server environments (physical, virtual, and cloud-hosted).
- Coordinate updates, patches, and lifecycle planning for servers and network hardware.
- Technology Planning & Innovation:
- Research emerging technologies and recommend modern IT solutions to meet business objectives.
- Participate in long-term planning for IT infrastructure, systems migration, and digital transformation.
- Support integration and performance of ERP infrastructure and related business-critical systems.
- User Training & Support:
- Provide excellent end-user support across all company locations and remote staff.
- Train users on secure practices, systems access, and IT policies.
- Respond to help desk requests, prioritizing resolution and customer service.
Experience/Skills
- Strong understanding of LAN/WAN architecture, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, VPNs
- Experience with Microsoft server and cloud ecosystems (Office 365, Azure AD, Exchange Online)
- Expertise in cybersecurity principles and tools (firewalls, EDR/XDR, MFA, security controls)
- Windows OS (desktop/server), Active Directory, Group Policy
- Familiarity with virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V)
- Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills
- Customer service orientation and ability to work independently
