The mission of the District Attorney's Office is to seek justice through:
  • Promoting accountability for criminal offenders.
  • Interpreting, enforcing and executing law.
  • Responding to the concerns of victims and the public; and
  • Working cooperatively with members of the justice system.

New employees typically start at step 1 of the pay scale ($23.78/hour). 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Provides direct services to victims of crime including child sexual abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Keeps victims informed of their rights, how to exercise them, and provides updates on the criminal justice system as it pertains to their case.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under supervision of the Victim Assistance Program Manager, who assigns work, sets goals and reviews for conformance to policy and procedures.
 
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification.
  • Provides direct advocacy to victims of crime as assigned by case managers and program director.
  • Maintain case files, data for grant requirements, case calendar and monthly report.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, volunteer activities and trainings.
  • Drives to and from meetings and various District Attorney buildings.
  • Sexual Assault Response.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  1. Associate degrees in criminal justice, social science, social work or related field; AND
  2. One year of victim advocacy experience; OR      
  3. Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and an acceptable driving history.  Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving record according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business.  The policy can be found at:  http://apps.co.marion.or.us/APAP/.
  • The finalist for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check, including finger printing; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this position.
  • This is a safety sensitive/special needs position. Final candidates selected for this position will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including testing for marijuana.   • This assignment is represented by a union.
  • This is a full-time, temporary assignment, which is eligible for overtime.
  • Typical Work Schedule:  Monday through Friday (8am-5pm), with flexibility depending upon the needs of the department and program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of the criminal justice system, court proceedings, community services, and the legal system in the District Attorney's office.

Skills and abilities to prepare reports and correspondence; track statistical data for grant requirements; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; respond effectively in crisis situations with a prejudice and judgment-free attitude; work with individuals and agencies with a variety of backgrounds and purposes; establish and maintain professional, effective, and collaborative working relationships the public, co-workers, courts, and other agencies; operate a computer; operate an automobile; and make appropriate referrals for direct service.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Drives a motor vehicle in the performance of duties; uses depth perception; reads a 12-pt. font; distinguishes colors; speaks with a clear and audible voice; hears a whispered speech level; sits; stands; bends; moves about the work area; climbs 1 floor of stairs; reaches overhead; uses a keyboard and computer; lifts, pushes, pulls, moves carts and carries items weighing up to 10 lbs.; operates a computer.
