The Husbandry Technician is proficient in all areas of animal husbandry. The Marshall Farm’s animal care program is enhanced through flexibility in job function. Many employees are cross-trained in different functional areas. The degree of cross-training for a given person in various functional areas may be partial or complete, depending on the needs of the business, and may therefore be documented on an individual skill basis. A Husbandry Technician I can competently perform skills necessary for general animal husbandry
Essential Tasks:
- Use proper animal handling techniques while noting and reporting animal morbidity issues
- Perform routine duties that relate to general husbandry. Some examples of these are regrouping, moving animals, removing manure from cages, recycling dry feed, cage set ups, bedding, and removal of wet feed from the previous day.
- Complete assigned tasks within the established labor rates
- Assist in cleaning barns and equipment
- Make observations regarding animal health and communicate what they observe to their supervisor.
- Administer Vaccinations and complete required paperwork
- Collect fecal samples 1x per month and complete required paperwork
- Assist with providing medication as has been outlined by the treatment team
- Assist with PM whelp
- Complete other duties as assigned by management
The shift is 7:00 am -- 3:30 pm, M-F with a weekend rotation.
The position is a grade N2 - hourly pay range of $17.40 - $25.34 - compensation is based on experience!
Requirements
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Competency Requirements:
The individual is capable of effectively and consistently performing essential tasks and operating all equipment in a safe and proper manor.

Individual will contribute to a productive and professional environment by setting a positive example and demonstrating enthusiasm, diligence, and ethical behavior, and by taking responsibility for one’s actions and challenging oneself to continually improve.
Work Conditions:
Conditions in summer months are often hot and humid, with frequent animal contact. Winter months conditions are cool to cold again with frequent animal contact.
During flu season, procedure masks are required in all Ferret barns at all times. Company provided lab coats/over-alls are worn at all times. Gloves are to be warn when handling animals.
Physical Requirement:
Work is physically demanding with a requirement to lift animals, bedding, reach to the back of cages, and clean cages. Position may require operation of a tractor, and or a motorized buggy
Mental Requirement:
The individual is capable of effectively receiving, understanding, and applying written and oral instructions.
