Job Title: Medical Center Laboratory Director – Acute Care Facility

Facility: 150 licensed beds, acute care hospital
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Laboratory Director to lead and oversee the clinical laboratory operations within our acute care facility. This leadership position involves coordinating laboratory personnel and managing the performance of key diagnostic tests, including chemical, microscopic, blood bank, and bacteriologic tests. The Laboratory Director ensures that all laboratory services are of the highest quality, cost-efficient, and performed in a timely manner to support effective disease diagnosis and treatment. This role also includes collaborating with physicians and other departments, maintaining compliance with regulations, and driving continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage the clinical laboratory team to ensure efficient and effective performance of laboratory testing and services.
- Oversee the execution of tests in various areas, including blood bank, chemistry, microbiology, and hematology, ensuring accurate and timely results for patient care.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Laboratory Pathologist to address complex or critical findings that require additional expertise.
- Monitor and implement performance improvement initiatives within the laboratory and participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Manage and formulate the laboratory budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maintaining high service standards.
- Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with physicians and other hospital departments to facilitate smooth clinical operations.
- Adhere to regulatory requirements and assist with laboratory accreditation and certification processes.
- Perform other duties as required to ensure the efficient operation of the laboratory.
Reporting To: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related Physical Science field.
- ASCP Certification (MT) required.
- Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience in a clinical laboratory setting within an acute care hospital (non-waived testing).
- Experience with laboratory accreditation, regulations, and compliance.
- Residents of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, or Oklahoma preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
