The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 4 (Baltimore County) is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineering Technician IV position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.
 

Nature of WorkThe Transportation Engineer Technician IV (TET IV) performs duties in maintenance, including but not limited to repairs to roadways, buildings, parking areas, bridges, traffic barrier, lighting, drainage (pipes, inlets, manholes, etc.), shoulders, crack sealing, salt structures, and pavement markings (striping, heat applied lines and symbols, rpms). This position will work for the level five engineering technicians and District Maintenance Operations Engineer in the repair areas noted above and is expected to give guidance and assistance to less experienced employees. This position will have inspection duties such as ensuring contractors comply with all current SHA standards and specifications of construction and materials, written and electronic record documentation of materials, equipment and manpower for various work activities, and tracking and reporting task progress to ensure projects are completed in a safe and timely manner.

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
 
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.

Notes:  
 1.  Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience, up to a maximum of three years.
  
 2.  Applicants who possess an associate’s degree in either engineering, construction management or surveying or surveying technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the five-year experience requirement.

Candidate must possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) valid in state of Maryland.


The selected candidate will be required to obtain and retain the following certifications within six (6) – twelve (12) months of appointment:


  • Work Zone Traffic Control Manager Certification

Special Requirements:


  • Employees in this classification may be considered “Essential Employees” and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to “Essential Employee” status.
  • This position will be on call 24/7 for highway emergencies and natural disasters and is considered essential personnel. 
  • This position may be required to work various shifts and on weekends depending on assignment.
