Academic advising is integral to fulfilling the teaching and learning mission of MassArt. As a member of the Academic Resource Center (ARC) team, the Assistant Director of Advising trains and assists faculty advisors to ensure enrolled and newly accepted students learn to become members of the MassArt community, to think critically about their roles and responsibilities as students and to fulfill the academic requirements necessary to progress to graduation.

SALARY RANGE: $58,000 - $65,000 Commensurate with Experience
Position is governed by the Association of Professional Administrators
Essential Functions:
- Participate as a member of the ARC team in supporting the holistic development of our student body;
- Provide training and leadership to faculty advisors, ARC colleagues, graduate assistants and department chairs to ensure the delivery of coordinated advising services through training materials and instruction that focuses on best practices;
- Work closely with department chairs, faculty advisors, and the office of the registrar, regarding student progression;
- Meet with students individually and in groups on issues pertaining to progression, retention, and major exploration.
- Assist students in crafting a coherent educational plan based on assessment of abilities, aspirations, interests, and values;
- Advise students on course selection, major selection, and goal setting to encourage the continuation of studies;
- Educate students on the need to assume responsibility for meeting academic program requirements;
- Encourage students to articulate the meaning of higher education and the intent of MassArt's curriculum;
- Utilize software and administrative systems, including retention and student records management tools (i.e. CRM Advise, Ellucian Colleague, Ellucian Student Planning, etc.)
- Manage outreach events to students regarding registration and major selection;
- Collaborate with Career Development staff regarding internships, student employment, and post-graduation opportunities;
- Meet with students with academic warnings and students on notice/probation/subject to dismissal to encourage usage of college resources and resources available through the Academic Resource Center
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree required in the fields of Higher Education, School Counseling, Education, or related field
- 5 or more years prior experience working with students in an advising capacity
- Demonstrated success in creating and delivering educational programs, which enhance the student experience, elicit engagement and increase learnings
- Knowledge of LMS and CRM technology is required
- Requires strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and computer skills
- Ability to work and communicate inclusively and effectively within a broadly diverse community
